You’re invested in making the best choice for your vehicle donation and you may have questions: Will the tow be free? Can I choose which charity to gift with my donation? What will my donation be?
We can help you decide the best method for you, your faithful chariot, and the cause you care about! Many vehicle donation questions will be answered here, but do check back again soon for more detailed information on the difference between a “donation” and a “tax receipt,” what’s required of charities in cooperating with these programs, and how big the impact of your gift really is.
How are our six Canadian vehicle donation organizations alike?
Each will provide free tow support in their area of service (this varies significantly from one to the next), and each car donation program is committed to seeing the gift of your vehicle donation go to important charitable causes.
How is one option different from another? This will help:
Donate a Car Canada (Business, in cooperation with over 800 charities) – Accept vehicles for recycling, scrap, or re-sale at auction. Donation outcomes vary, but can be up to thousands of dollars, dependent on vehicle particulars and region. Your gift can be designated to any registered Canadian charity (if your charity is not on the list, DAC will invite them to join the program), and service is available across Canada.
Kidney Car (Charity: The Kidney Foundation, with cooperating scrap yards, like Pick n Pull/Pick and Pull) – Vehicles are either re-sold or scrapped, depending on the area and service availability. Kidney Car serves from Coast to Coast with vehicle donation proceeds going to research and awareness related to Kidney disease.
Charity Car (Business, in cooperation with Standard Auto Wreckers) – Recycle only. All vehicles are recycled in an eco-friendly manner, with net proceeds of an average of $60.00 distributed to your chosen charity. Service is advertised across the country.
Car Heaven (Business, in cooperation with Authorized Auto Recyclers) – Recycle only process is limited by age of vehicle. All vehicles are recycled environmentally with a tax receipt of $100.00 in serviced areas. You can choose one of several cooperating charities to gift.
Teen Challenge (Charity) – vehicles are received for training for at-risk teens who are learning vehicle mechanics. Tax receipts are issued, by Teen Challenge, for fair market value, and service is available via eight drop off locations in four provinces (Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick).
Kars4Kids (Charity: Oorah Charitable Organization) – In the U.S. all vehicles are sold, or used, as donated. Tax receipts are in the amount of fair market value, or the full final sale price of the vehicle and all gifts are designated to Jewish charities under the umbrella of the Oorah Charitable Organization. Service in Canada is available only in Ontario.
As you can see, car donation programs are all united in one common outcome: helping to get monetary donations to charities in need.
Differences lie in types and areas of service, donation and tax receipt outcomes, and who will be on the receiving end of your mindful gift. Donate a Car Canada offers the broadest selection of charity choice with over 800 amazing organizations to choose from. We pride ourselves on exceptional donor and charity support, speedy tows, and we are happy to take care of all the vehicle donation details for you!
