Pollinator week is wrapping up here in Canada. What’s the buzz about our bees? Read on!
Pollinator week: more than just busy bees
Did you know that Canada is home to lots of different kinds of pollinator pros? You know about bees (of course!). Butterflies, moths, wasps, and flies– even some types of beetles also do their part. And there are more! Hummingbirds and certain bats also play their part in keeping things bloomin’.
The week of June 16th saw conservation organizations doffing their bee keeper’s veils for pollinator week. Coast to coast, these charities educated and rallied the call to care for these life-giving critters.
Pollinator Partnership Canada says, “Pollinator Week is an annual celebration in support of pollinator health that was initiated and is managed by Pollinator Partnership. It is a time to raise awareness for pollinators and spread the word about what we can do to protect them. The great thing about Pollinator Week is that you can celebrate and get involved any way you like! Popular events include planting for pollinators and hosting garden tours. You can participate in online bee and butterfly ID workshops, and so much more.”
Supporting the pesky and the pretty
Did you know that there are charities in Canada whose focus is keeping our wild Wild and Wooly? There are those who champion our geese, bears, moose, and beavers, to be sure. And there are organizations who tend waterways and birds and fish. Many of these same groups also turn focused, creative, and resourceful attention on the little critters — critters like our pollinators.
For example, the Cochrane Ecological Institute posted, “
It’s Pollinator Week 2025 and this year’s theme, “Pollinators Weave Connections,” reminds us just how deeply these tiny creatures are tied to our lives, our cultures, and our planet. From bees and butterflies to bats, beetles, moths, and hummingbirds, pollinators are the unsung heroes behind the food we eat, the flowers we love, and the ecosystems we depend on.
Let’s celebrate their vital role and take action to protect them, because when pollinators thrive, so do we.
“
The Land Conservancy of BC shared a video. “Celebrating these vital members of our ecosystem by sharing a few facts 💛“
