10 Pontiac donations, 10 caring causes

As we wrap up our month-end accounting (our first one of 2026!), Pontiac donations are making their giving mark for Western Canadian charities.

It’s been a unique first month of the year for Pontiac donations. Typically we see makes and models spread across the country. From PEI to Vancouver Island, all kinds of makes and models roll in. What’s unique about the Vibes, Montanas, and Sunfires this month? They are all BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba donations!

Another unique outcome? Each donor selected a different charity of choice! Often we’ll see multiple donations for some of the country’s more well known national charities. Not this month.

Three Pontiac Vibes were donated this month — two from Alberta, and one from BC. Their receiving charities: Medicine Hat SPCA, the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and the Knowledge Network Corporation.

One G5 and two G6 donations rumbled in. The donors’ chosen charities: ALIES & the Back Porch, Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, and the Linden Benevolent Society for Seniors.

Up next, a triple run of Montana donations! Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Vancouver Island, Centre Flavie Laurent, and the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre will receive their respective gifts in the next few days.

Charities all set for a winter boost

There’s nothing to clear the winter blah’s like a zot of funds to keep doing the work you love! Any charity in Canada can receive a vehicle donation through Donate a Car Canada. These Pontiac donations add up to hundreds of precious donation dollars for their receiving charities.

Charities do not pay any fees to be part of our program. Between ourselves and CanadaHelps, all aspects of the vehicle donation process are managed on each charity’s behalf. World Cancer Day: a blend of heart, stats, and hope for the future

World Cancer Day strikes a chord. At the time of this writing I have many loved ones and family members facing their personal Cancer diagnoses head on. I’ve lost people to the disease just this year, and many others over my lifetime. Maybe that rings true for you, too?

The Canadian Cancer Society offers some clear-eyed statistics on just how Canada is affected by this kind of illness as a whole. Their pie charts are not for the faint-of-heart.

And there is now more hope for cure, recovery, and remission than ever before.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation notes, “The impact of a donation is far bigger than any statistic. Your donation and your kindness reaches all over…It touches our neighbours, our friends and our loved ones–those who face cancer today or later down the road.

By donating…you help fund support programs for patients close to home, helping ease their cancer journey, and make life better for patients with cancer when a specific cure is not yet an option. Mazda donors go bonkers big

DAC: Good afternoon! Donate a Car Canada — How can I help?

Caller: Yeah…so…I’d like to donate my Mazda? How do I go about this?

And so it begins. One little phone call and you are on your way to your free tow! Your charity of choice? Well, they’re on their way to cash in hand for the heartwork they do — at no cost to them!

At the time of this writing, we’ve just processed one donor’s extraordinary six (6!) vehicle donation. Two of those cars? You guessed it: Mazdas. His charity of choice? The Alberta Cancer Foundation was the recipient of all six gifts!

Earlier in September, a 2012 Mazda 5 donation earned The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum a donation of $2022.00!

Last month, a 2002 Mazda MPV donor gifted The Alex Community Health Centre $568.69.

Why should I donate my Mazda?

Mazda donations come in all shapes and sizes. This year we’ve seen 3’s, 5’s, Proteges, Tributes, and MPVs. The list goes on. ‘Ever heard of a Mazda Bongo Friendee? I hadn’t either. A donor gifted one on behalf of CancerCare Manitoba back in December 2020. ‘Worth a little Google search, that one is!

In great shape, it will earn more for the cause you love. We have re-sale agents coast to coast. Whenever we can, we keep cars out of the scrap yards by re-selling them for a higher charity returns!

If a vehicle cannot be re-sold, our agents will recycle the it. Donations for recycle-ready cars, vans, trucks, and SUVs vary from province to province. Each agent determines what they are able to pay for a vehicle based on curb weight, year/make/model/mileage, and the current metal market.

Why would I donate my car for cancer?

Friends, how many of us have been closely affected by some form of cancer? Perhaps you have faced into a diagnosis yourself? Most certainly someone you love has gone toe-to-toe with one form of this disease or another.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society,

“Researchers estimated that there would be 233,900 new cancer cases and 85,100 cancer deaths in Canada in 2022. (The number of estimated new cases does not include non-melanoma skin cancer cases.)

Cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada and is responsible for 28.2% of all deaths.”

Research, care, education, and all kinds of support are being capably tended in Canada! There are medical professionals, caregivers, and really smart people tackling this enormous issue. For us! Donate a Car Canada is set up to serve ANY Canadian charity (and there are thousands of charities in our great country!). Many of them are specific to cancers of all sorts. Some organizations are dedicated to grief support. Children’s cancers and related care are the heartwork of many. Others are all about research and finding cures. How do I donate my car for cancer?

This is the easy part! We have a 5 – 10 minute donation form all set up for you. Fill that in and hit the “complete” button. From there, it’s all on us! We will make arrangements for your free pick-up. Our agents will send payment for your vehicle. If the car is recycled, we will see a set return on behalf of your charity of choice (this can be up to $600.00 in the current market). Our agent may be able to re-sell your donated vehicle! In that event, the limit is only as high as buyers are willing to bid!

When a donated car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle is put up for bids, the donation outcome can be hearty! This spring saw a donation of just under $2000.00 from one Yaris donor. This is the new normal! We are seeing wonderfully strong sale outcomes in our strangely disrupted re-sale market. This is a great benefit to the charity you love!

There is no cost to you, and there is never any cost to your charity.

Minivan donation helps Transforming Faces

Dusty’s donors’ charity of choice was Transforming Faces. TF champions kiddos around the world. They believe, “Children born with cleft lip and palate deserve to be supported every step of the way. Comprehensive cleft care makes that possible.”

So many more minivans, so many more charities!

Dusty and his legacy of giving is storied. We share in the gratitude and affection donors have for their long-serving cars, trucks, and vans. These minivans are much more than metal and rubber. They can feel like members of the family!

Many times our donors keep their donation stories close. We aren’t privvy to the deeply personal reasons a charity has been chosen. The reasons for donating are as varied as the donors themselves! So are the charities.

The reasons we give

Charity choice can feel like a really big decision when donating a car! How can we possibly choose one of over 1,000 charities? We give where we live. Hope. suffering, and sickness impact this choice. Legacy and estate giving can be a meaningful way to honour our loved ones.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation (Tom Baker Cancer Centre) was the heartwork of one September donor.

The giver’s ’09 Mazda Tribute was recycle-ready,

“This has been a great vehicle but recently we have had issues with it not starting randomly then it starts fine. It’s a 2009 so it’s just not worth us putting the time and money into it.”

Capably served by our regional tow agent, the free tow was arranged within a few days. The donor wrote in to say,

“The experience…has been extremely professional and easy. It was actually hard to let go of our family vehicle but when we saw we could donate of the the cancer foundation and specifically the Tom Baker it was an easy decision as I lost my brother to cancer in 2019 and donating in his memory means a lot…thank you for making the experience so easy with dealing with all your kind staff, including the…tow staff.”

The Goodness of Canadians in giving…even when they’re hurting. Giving with the intention of offering hope and practical help to others who will come after them. One little Mazda is a meaningful donation!

Not all heroes fly…

…some roll in to auction on two wheels…and then again on four Mini Cooper wheels! One of our donors is a beautiful reflection of the Goodness that can come from one generous human!

We’ll call our double donor Rachel. As is so often the case with our donors, they are not looking for accolades. They want to remain anonymous. Rachel is just so!

We first met Rachel in March of 2021. Her first donation was a 2004 Aprilia Atlantic scooter. Her donation outcome on this rare little bomb around? $928.25 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation!

Her second donation was to follow just months later. In July of 2021 she opted to part with her 1999 hunter green Rover Mini Cooper. Little did she or the Calgary Humane Society know how big those little Mini bids would go!

As with many car donors, Rachel had no idea what to expect when she reached out to us here at Donate a Car Canada. Would the process be simple? It was! Time consuming? Not at all. Could she even donate her scooter? You bet! And what would happen to her fun little Mini? Re-sale through auction all the way!

Both the scooter and the Rover were easily accommodated through our auction process. Rachel was contacted by our tow agent to arrange her free pick-up. The vehicles were then both successfully run through our supporting Calgary auction house. And this during pandemic times!

Auction outcomes are subject to what buyers are willing to offer on sale day. Sale outcomes remain a mystery throughout the process. So, when we learned of the exceptional offer received on this particular ‘Cooper we were over the moon for her charities! And Rachel was too,

“I am STUNNED. Seriously I don’t know what to say!!! I am so thrilled the car sold so well! Honestly I only paid about $9,000 for it many years ago and was kind of crossing my fingers we’d get close to that amount, but I was expecting $5K more realistically. Over 12K is FANTASTIC, I can’t believe it!!! Thank you again for all of your help with this. I know it was a very unusual vehicle to auction and we had no idea how it’d do. So this turned out far, far better than I’d ever even hoped!

I was so happy with how everything turned
out!

I am crossing my fingers that others might be interested in donating in the
future, especially older, weird cars like mine.“

Rachel’s humane society and ACF heartwork

The Calgary Humane Society and the Alberta Cancer Foundation have each been partnered with Donate a Car for over 10 years.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation received their first vehicle donation in 2011. From the beginning, this has been one of our donors’ most beloved causes.

Their work? The ACF raises and receives funds on behalf of 17 treatment centres in Alberta. Funding supports cancer research, patient education and financial assistance programs, equipment and technology acquisition, and cancer care programs.

We have many active donations for them in the works at the time of this writing! Rachel’s $900.00 scooter donation in Spring is a special reflection of a loving community of supporters.

And the Calgary Humane Society has been with us just as long! These animal carers shelter, heal, protect, and place 10,000 animals per year in distress or crisis. Rachel’s extraordinary gift of $12044.75 goes such a long way in this kind of work. And we have a handful of currently active donors who agree — the critters at CHS will receive more donations here in the next few weeks!

It’s a personal thing

If you’re reading this, you could probably write this. Cancer affects all of us. Have you experienced it firsthand? More certainly, you have had a loved one who has.

My earliest memory of the disease was my Grandpa’s long and painful illness. That was almost 50 years ago. That introduction was preamble to the close-call diagnosis of many loved ones. It was the first of dear ones falling ill.

Research and medical practice have made progress, despite the many faces of this disease, in the past few decades. ‘Research and practice made possible, in large part, by donations like yours!

Canadian Cancer Society

The CCS is one of Donate a Car Canada’s most-chosen Cancer charities. It’s easy to see why! It is their vision to foster a world where no one fears cancer. With the support of volunteers and donors, they improve and save lives. They do this by taking a comprehensive approach to their work against more than 100 types of cancer. CCS funds research and provides services to those living with cancer. They are advocates on important cancer-related issues.
