Tuesday, December2nd, Giving Tuesday — Canada’s way of coming together to “create a tidal wave of Hope”! Give time, give kindness, give dollars and cents…or give your unwanted, unused four wheels!

Giving Tuesday brings us together

“GivingTuesday is a global movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.” How will you get involved on December 2, 2025?

So many ways to participate this December

Look no further for ways to share this Giving Tuesday! Donate a Car Canada processes donations for any Canadian charity! Each one will offer ways that you can help. Just as you. Where you are. Today!

Many of us are not in a position to give financially. No problem! The smallest acts of kindness bring meaningful relief. Your innate Goodness? It matters! Share it in the way that you are best able. A written note, or a pot of soup. An offer of childcare, or pet sitting. A simple, authentic smile.

‘Have your feet under you and feeling some financial freedom? Canadian charities will put your dollars and cents to excellent work. Caring, skilled men, women, and children are manning the wheel at our charities. What they need more than anything? The finances to keep things in motion. Your financial offering can make such a difference.

On the other hand, some charities will accept gifts-in-kind — that lightly used couch, coat, or pair of shoes will help!

Get Intentional

Give where you feel the love! CanadaHelps is a fabulous resource in selecting charities to support.

The cause that has most-helped you or your loved ones may be just the place to start this Giving Tuesday. If vulnerable pets or our remarkable Canadian wildlife tug at your heartstrings, give them a paw (or talon…or fin) up!

In giving creatively, you might even think about the impact your gift has on more than one level. Giving your lightly used household items, or a vehicle, means practical help to the recipient. That kind of giving does more! It reduces waste and is helpful environmentally. It clears your own space (possibly aiding in your own wellbeing). The benefits touch into your life, the life (lives) of your recipient, and the broader world.

Your Giving Tuesday

We’d love to see you this Giving Tuesday! Pick your charity and do up our quick donation form (it takes less than 10 minutes to fill out). Your charity not on our list? No problem! Just let us know and we’ll direct your gift to the cause you love! We’ll have you set up with your free tow and on your way to a tax receipt in short order!

That free tow will be managed efficiently, and with care. Typically, donated vehicles are picked up within 1 – 3 business days. You’ll be called in advance to ensure timing that suits you well.

The gift on top of the gift in all of this? Just as there is no cost to you, there is no cost to your charity of choice. We are here to ensure this full process is managed on behalf of yourself and your charity so that you can all keep doing what you need to do!

In anticipation of making a big difference together…

One of the best testaments to exceptional donor care is repeat donors. One High River, Alberta family has donated five (5!) vehicles for DRIFCan since 2021! What keeps them coming back?

DRIFCan vehicle donors keep research rolling

DYK? There are over 450 million people worldwide who live with a form of Diabetes. “The mission of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation Canada (DRIFCan) is to directly fund cure-based diabetes research conducted by Dr.James Shapiro and the team at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.”

This is a mission car donors can get behind! We have a family 100% committed to this cause. Since 2021 they have donated their own mini-family-fleet of vehicles for this work. That has resulted in thousands of dollars for Diabetes research!

The vehicles they gifted and the difference it made

Back in 2021, this generous prairie family reached out to donate their first vehicle — a 1990 Honda Accord. “It is an old manual Honda,” they noted, “but was used to commute 126k almost daily until the other day it died. We had it towed home and it started and ran for a bit and then died again. It will probably need recycling. We have just learned to deal with what doesn’t work. Sometimes the windows get stuck and sometimes the fuel gauge doesn’t work.” A character car all the way!

2022 rolled in, and with it, the family’s 2002 Chevy Tracker. Their second vehicle donation for DRIFCan. Then, a 2003 Toyota Sienna in 2023! “We have removed the battery but it was in driving condition and being used. The cable to one of the side doors was cut because the door would not close and now just has to remain closed but there is a wind leak. We think there might be an electrical problem because something was draining the battery if it sat for a few days. We had to guess on the odometer because we had already removed the battery.” A trusty minivan, making a difference at the end of its road.

And more vehicles were to come!

Here we are in 2024, and this generous High River family just keeps on giving! They first came to us in February of this year with their 2002 Dodge Caravan. It was ready for recycling and our agent served them in typical hop-to-it fashion! Then, just last month we saw them in our inbox yet again!

“The car runs fine but the battery has been removed. The right, passenger window will not roll up and down and needs to be fixed. It is permanently set in the closed position. The car was just not needed anymore. The kms is a guess because it is electronic and there is no battery so we can’t check it.” No problem! That 1997 Lincoln Town Car was another valuable recycle-ready vehicle for Diabetes Research!

Your vehicle, your charity of choice

This unique family has been singular in their repeat generosity! ‘Inspired to follow in their tire tracks? Donate your vehicle for any Canadian charity. The process is simple, quick, free, and friendly. Your first step is to fill in an online donation form. Then, wait for your phone to ring — the tow crew will call to set up your free tow. You read that right! The tow is always free. Following that, you will receive a tax receipt for the net proceeds from the re-sale, or recycling of your vehicle.

Find out firsthand why families like our five-vehicle donors keep coming back!

Join the thousands of Canadians that have experienced the particular joy of making a difference through vehicle donation. Valuable donation dollars for the cause you love. Furthermore, a tax receipt for you. We look forward to working with you!

‘Ford Taurus donor gives from the heart. Learn more about her cause and the car she loves!

Ford Taurus donors help from coast-to-coast

At Donate a Car Canada we see four-wheeled wonders donated across the country! The trusty Ford Taurus factors into that goodness every month. At the time of this writing, we have three Taurus donations in the works. From Kapuskasing, Ontario to Nanaimo, BC, our agents are working for the charities you love. They’re turning recycle-ready cars into cash for heartworks. ‘Your car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle not ready for recycling? No problem! They’ll re-sell it in their hard-working efforts to get the best money possible for your cause.

The Knowledge Network, The Ottawa Humane Society, and Diabetes Canada are all on deck for December month-end gifts from Ford Taurus donors!

First car, first car donation

One of our Ford Taurus donors had a special experience at the age of sixty-one. It wasn’t what you might expect! ‘Not an empty nest, or a grandbaby. And not a first-time Snow Bird trek. No, when Maggie (not her real name) was enjoying her sixty-first trip around the sun, she bought her first car.

That car was – you guessed it – a Ford Taurus. Because it was the first time she had ever purchased a vehicle, she named the car, “Firsty”!

When Firsty had given all she had on Maggie’s behalf, this loving vehicle owner decided to extend the Ford’s legacy. Instead of selling the car privately, she donated it!

It was assumed that the car would be recycled. By that time Firsty had been in an accident and was a little worse-for-wear. Our agent was in no hurry to scrap the car. He opted to put the car up for offers to his unique buyer base.

“This is a surprise to me,” Maggie commented upon learning that we were working to get a bigger money return for her charity. She had no idea it would be possible to see a higher-than-recycle donation outcome for her chosen charity. She assumed Firsty was done-in and ready for the scrap heap.

Not so! That little Taurus found a new owner!

Diabetes Canada, the chosen recipient

Firsty the Ford Taurus sold to the highest bidder. The result? A donation of just under $600.00 for Diabetes Canada — Maggies’ charity of choice. The mission this little car is supporting: to lead the fight against diabetes by helping people with diabetes live healthy lives while working to find a cure.

Your Taurus, your choice

Donate a Car Canada is partnered with hundreds of Canadian charities. This service is at no cost to the charity, with the exception of the time it takes for them to issue your tax receipt. If you donate your vehicle for charities like The Knowledge Network, The Ottawa Humane Society, and Diabetes Canada you can trust that we and our agents are doing all we can to see the best dollar outcomes possible for them.

If you’re supporting a charity closer to your own home, it’s possible we’re already serving them. On the other hand, they may not realize this option is available for raising funds. let them know! We’ll get them on board in no time with a vehicle donation process specific to their programming.

Maggie wanted Firsty’s legacy to benefit Diabetes Canada. If you’re ready to part with an unused/unwanted vehicle, we can share that Goodness with whomever you wish. You’re just a click and a ten minute donation form (or phone call) away!

“Diabetes is a disease in which your body either can’t make insulin or can’t properly use the insulin it makes. Insulin is a hormone made by your pancreas.

Insulin’s job is to regulate the amount of sugar in the blood. Blood sugar must be carefully regulated to ensure that the body works properly. Too much blood sugar can cause damage to organs, blood vessels, and nerves. Your body also needs insulin in order to use sugar for energy.

Eleven million Canadians are living with some type of this sickness. Chances are, this affects you or someone you know.

Types of diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is the most common diagnosis, followed by type 1 diabetes. Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy, and is usually temporary. In addition, prediabetes is another diagnosis that indicates an higher risk of developing diabetes.

Type 1

Type 1 is an autoimmune disease. It is also known as insulin-dependent diabetes. People with type 1 aren’t able to produce their own insulin (and can’t regulate their blood sugar). This is because their body is attacking the pancreas. Roughly 10 per cent of people living with diabetes have type 1.

Type 1 diabetes generally develops in childhood or adolescence, but can also develop in adulthood. People with type 1 need to inject insulin or use an insulin pump. This ensures their bodies have the right amount of insulin.

Type 2

People with type 2 diabetes can’t properly use the insulin made by their bodies. Or their bodies aren’t able to produce enough insulin. Roughly 90 per cent of people living with diabetes have type 2.

Type 2 diabetes is most commonly developed in adulthood, although it can also occur in childhood. Type 2 can sometimes be managed with healthy eating and regular exercise alone. It may also require medications or insulin therapy.”

Finding support and helping others

The Diabetes Canada website is a hub for Canadians living with this illness. Furthermore, it is a solid support for loved ones. They offer easy-to-understand information about living and eating well. For example, you’ll find interactive tools, educational webinars, recipes, events, and more.

Are you in a position to help others? You may have a little extra time on your hands. Moreover, cleaning out the closet might be on the to-do list. The charity has many ways you can help the cause. These include volunteering, gifts-in-kind (like clothing), and events. Maybe you have a car to donate? We make that quick and easy!

Donate a Car Canada has changed his name to honor his request. His kindness and good humor come through nonetheless. He has submitted 3 vehicles for donation since he first discovered our program in 2012!

Canadian Diabetes is one cause for Connor

“Donating to the (Canadian Diabetes Association) seemed like a good idea at the time; they’d been around for a long time and they do good work.” A family member with diabetes helped make the choice. Connor chose to designate his first vehicle donation to the cause of supporting people affected by the illness. His recycle-ready Toyota contributed to the work of informing, researching, educating, and advocacy! What an impact for those touched by this far-reaching disease.

AARCS

And then along came Chester. Chester is Connor’s rescue dog. A shepherd mix that brings a lot of joy and tenderness into Connor’s life, Chester’s adoption was facilitated through the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew.

“We were so happy with him, and (AARCS) was so easy to work with!”

We give to the things that have our hearts, and Chester plus Alberta Animal Rescue Crew have Connor’s! In the winter of 2015, he donated the proceeds from two separate Donate a Car Canada donations to the animal rescue. How much, you may ask? His vehicle donations resulted in over $1300.00 to the charity! A generous outcome of around $200.00 for his ’01 Saturn when her transmission gave out. And just over $1000.00 of that double donation was the outcome of the donation of an SUV.

The impact is ongoing

Honoring Chester and the charity through his gifts directly impacts the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew. Moreover, the friends that share Connor’s habit of helping with animal rescue are affected. They have just opened an Edmonton operation., They diligently pursue their mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home abused and neglected animals throughout Alberta. Connor’s $1300.00 will be stretched as far as it can be, and put to great work!

Connor’s generosity of spirit and his quiet diligence in doing good for others is the heart of so many of our receiving charities. We feel we can speak on behalf of both the CDA and AARCS in thanking him for his practical compassion!

Help your caring cause today!
