Donors give cars for cancer because they care

Every vehicle donation has a story. Because so many Canadians are directly and emotionally impacted by cancers, thousands of generous folx donate cars for cancer every year.

One of our fabulously generous outcomes in recent months was M.L.’s Ford Model A donation. The short story?

$10,687.50 was raised for the Canadian Cancer Society!

The Alberta Cancer Foundation was the happy recipient of multiple recycle-ready donations from the same donor over the past few years, too. This isn’t unusual! Vehicle donors love the experience of giving in this way, and they often come back whenever they, or a loved one, have a car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle that can aid the cause they love.

Personal connection and donating cars for cancer

Visible fund raising efforts draw caring attention to some cancers. These campaigns matter so much! Research and treatment development mean that illness that historically would have resulted in death is now treatable and survivable. One such is prostate cancer.

One vehicle donor had a personal mission to raise awareness and compel action. He had a close call with prostate cancer and it shook him to the core. The result was a radical generosity! He donated an auction-ready Mercedes that resulted in a donation of over $27,000.00 for Prostate Cancer Canada!

Kids Cancer Care Foundation receives 5 vehicle donation — from one donor!

When a donor found herself settling an Alberta estate, she needed a simple solution for managing multiple vehicles left on her loved one’s property. One by one, we excitedly watched as each unique donation rolled in on behalf of her charity of choice, Kids Cancer Care.

When the agent successfully completed her first free tow, she wrote in to note, “Very good service.” The second wave of vehicles were helped along by a, “Very nice young man,” too!

All-in-all, KCC received the net proceeds from her generously donated estate 1992 Buick Regal, 1984 Chevrolet Geo Citation, 1981 Oldsmobile Tornado (she had a “tear in her eye” as she watched this one roll away), 1981 Ford F-250, and 1980 Ford Econoline. These vehicles added up to thousands of donation dollars for her charity of choice!

Giving Tuesday brings us together

“GivingTuesday is a global movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.” How will you get involved on December 2, 2025?

So many ways to participate this December

Look no further for ways to share this Giving Tuesday! Donate a Car Canada processes donations for any Canadian charity! Each one will offer ways that you can help. Just as you. Where you are. Today!

Many of us are not in a position to give financially. No problem! The smallest acts of kindness bring meaningful relief. Your innate Goodness? It matters! Share it in the way that you are best able. A written note, or a pot of soup. An offer of childcare, or pet sitting. A simple, authentic smile.

‘Have your feet under you and feeling some financial freedom? Canadian charities will put your dollars and cents to excellent work. Caring, skilled men, women, and children are manning the wheel at our charities. What they need more than anything? The finances to keep things in motion. Your financial offering can make such a difference.

On the other hand, some charities will accept gifts-in-kind — that lightly used couch, coat, or pair of shoes will help!

Get Intentional

Give where you feel the love! CanadaHelps is a fabulous resource in selecting charities to support.

The cause that has most-helped you or your loved ones may be just the place to start this Giving Tuesday. If vulnerable pets or our remarkable Canadian wildlife tug at your heartstrings, give them a paw (or talon…or fin) up!

In giving creatively, you might even think about the impact your gift has on more than one level. Giving your lightly used household items, or a vehicle, means practical help to the recipient. That kind of giving does more! It reduces waste and is helpful environmentally. It clears your own space (possibly aiding in your own wellbeing). The benefits touch into your life, the life (lives) of your recipient, and the broader world.

Just let us know and we’ll direct your gift to the cause you love! We’ll have you set up with your free tow and on your way to a tax receipt in short order!

That free tow will be managed efficiently, and with care. Typically, donated vehicles are picked up within 1 – 3 business days. You’ll be called in advance to ensure timing that suits you well.

The gift on top of the gift in all of this? Just as there is no cost to you, there is no cost to your charity of choice. We are here to ensure this full process is managed on behalf of yourself and your charity so that you can all keep doing what you need to do!

Donation received! Now what?

Every donated vehicle is assessed for re-sale or recycle value. And you guessed it! This fantastic beast is ready for auction. The sale will be managed by Regal Auctions in Calgary, Alberta. Be sure to follow that link to see even more fabulous photos of the interior! If you can make to the auction, you are most welcome! ‘Can’t make it to the sale? Bidding will be available online, too!

The Ford Model A will go up for sale as-is. It will be sold to the highest bidder. The net proceeds from the sale will go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society. There is no cost or effort to the CCS in this process. Everything will be managed by ourselves here at Donate a Car Canada and Regal Auctions. Finally, CanadaHelps will facilitate getting the tax receipt to the charity so that M.L. can receive their tax receipt!

Happy news! We have a sale update!

For those of you following along on this Canadian Cancer Society vintage car donation, we have news! We are happy to report that the Model A was successfully auctioned in late September. The donation outcome? *Drum roll please….* $10,687.50 will be sent to the CCS in the donor’s name. That is a robust donation, and a hearty tax receipt amount, too. Big kudos to this generous donor!

When you click the “Donate Now” button on our website you’re on your way to done. You can literally donate a car in 5 minutes. The donation form you’ll find on the other end of your click will ask for these important vehicle details:

VIN (we’ll tell you where to find this if you’re not too sure)

And, of course, you’ll be asked to select the Canadian charity that will receive the net proceeds from the re-sale or recycling of your donated vehicle.

Where can I donate my car: Your charity of choice

We are so lucky to have the freedom to serve every Canadian charity through vehicle donation! It really is possible for you to choose any cause that you love when donating a car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle. As long as that charity is registered in Canada, we will disburse the net proceeds of re-sale or recycling right to them!

This all happens at $0.00 cost to the charity. They do not pay us to provide this service, and they are not subject to any sneaky hidden fees or obligations. We truly are here to facilitate this process for you, the donor, and for your charity.

Oh! Did we mention there is no cost to you either? Agents in every province in Canada are set up to serve you with a free pick-up or hiker service!

Donors sometimes wonder who the “best” charity is for their car donation. Our answer to that is an easy, “The one you love!”

Your charity will not actually deal with your vehicle in any way. There are not better re-sale or recycle outcomes based on which charity is receiving the gift. Donation amounts are all determined by the metal industry, your location, and our ever-changing market.

Where can I donate my car: Your pin on the map

Vehicle donation is capably, quickly (did we mention you can get things rolling to donate a car in 5 minutes?), and cheerfully supported from coast-to-coast in Canada. Every province has multiple regions where free tow support is happening every day.

That said, we do need to shuffle our feet apologetically here just a little.

If you are located in the territories, or in a more remote part of your province, we may be unable to get to you.

This is not for lack of wish and will! Your vehicle counts, and your hope to serve your charity is so important. Our limitations in this are due to industry service providers. If you happen to be in one of the areas we can’t reach, do contact us anyway? We are always at-the-ready to sign on new agents in previously unsupported areas! If we can find a way to process your vehicle for donation we certainly will.

I’m actually a charity representative — How do I sign up for this?

Welcome Charity Rep! We are so glad you’re here. When you sign up with us you will be added to the drop down list of organizations that donors select from when they are submitting their vehicle for donation.

We have a careful-and-seamless process for getting you on our easy-access list of charities.

If you pop over to our “Fundraising” button on the home page of our website you will be taken to a charity portal. From there you will be provided necessary documentation for our joyful collaboration. You will also be given direct contact information for our charities coordinator. They will be your guide in getting things like your website links set up so your donors know they can gift you in this unique way.

I’m a donor and I’m ready to roll!
