There are pros and cons to donating vs opting to sell a vehicle privately. We, of course, are superfans of donating! Who doesn’t love to do good for a beloved charity while also tending the environment and supporting local business? But economics being what they are, we well understand the need to make the choice that fits your current circumstance. Here are some considerations…

What happens when I donate a vehicle?

First, we have live humans answering an actual phone line every day (1-877-250-4904)! That noted, many folks call in whilst in the middle of the important decision: Should they sell a vehicle privately? Should they donate it for the charity they love?

A beautiful extension of the Donate a Car Canada program is that when you donate your unused, unwanted vehicle, you can choose ANY Canadian charity to gift. The net proceeds from the re-sale/recycling of your car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle goes directly to the charity.

There are zero costs or tasks left to the charity. We manage all aspects of the donation process. CanadaHelps manages the actual receipting process. This allows your chosen cause to continue doing the work they’re missioned with — no distractions!

And what about you? How is it good for you? Beyond the joy of giving (which you know is a happy buzz!), there are a few key wins:

Your free tow

Within hours of completing your donation form, one of our agents will call you to arrange free pick up of your vehicle. These crews are highly adaptive and will work with you to serve within the time frame that serves you best. These professionals know their stuff. They’ll assist with everything from proper registration paperwork and transfer of ownership to the care and keeping of your property when they come for the vehicle.

That tax receipt

Once your vehicle is picked up and re-sold or recycled, it’s just a matter of accounting completion. You will be kept apprised of where things are at in your process all along the way, including letting you know when your gift has actually been disbursed to your charity of choice. The receipt will arrive to your inbox shortly thereafter. You’ll receive a link for accessing copies of the tax receipt if your original is somehow misplaced, too. And we’ll be a click, an email, or a phone call away if you have any questions about this process at any point along the way.

The reassurance that this service is here for the long haul

Donate a Car has been at this for 20 years! Many vehicle donors return twice, three times, or many-many more! We’ve had business fleet vehicle donors come back one year after another to donation a handful of vehicles at a time. Others experience a change in family circumstances. We have carefully tended process around estate vehicle donation and other extenuating circumstances. We are a personalized, compassionate, and joy-filled service. Honouring each donor and their gift as unique is what we do!

So, why would I opt to sell a vehicle privately instead?

Dollars to donuts, if you sell a vehicle privately you may see a slightly stronger dollar amount than will be reflected in a vehicle donation tax receipt. There are few reasons for this:

When re-selling a vehicle through auction or via another bidding process, agents simply do not see Blue/Black Book values. This is often because the sales reflect what the precise current market will support.

There are some fees incurred in the running of the business end of things. Donate a Car Canada is a business that serves from coast to coast. We keep our costs low through several key means: our team is lean, and we all work from home. Because we are an online service, our running supplies are also minimal. That said, we do have employees (the reason you can talk to a funny and fabulous human when you call in, and you’ll get a personal note when you email).

Our agents cannot afford to donate their truck, fuel, and staff costs. Some of the value of the vehicle will need to go to the agent providing service. The cost of business for ourselves and for our agents are a factor in the donation outcome.

Simplifying life one vehicle at a time

If times are tight and pennies are pinched, the choice to sell a vehicle privately may be the route for you. But if there’s some wiggle room in the budget, donation may be the perfect service for you! One way of assessing that is considering how “full” your own bottle is. If your bills are met, you have the freedom to pick up a coffee from time to time, and maybe a vacation is in the plans, donation may be one way for you to extend care in your community.

If the bills are well in hand, trips are a no-brainer, and there’s lots of room to give in the bank account, giving in this way might be an easy Yes!

So, if you’re done with it, do good with it! The process is simple, quick, and free! If you have more questions, pop over to our FAQ’s. If you’d rather talk to one of our team, find us at 1-877-250-4904, Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00 MT.

Fast facts | The Canadian Mental Health Association breaks it down

Mental health and mental illness: what is the difference?

Illness and health are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same thing.

“Mental health” is a concept similar to “physical health”: it refers to a state of well-being. It includes our emotions, feelings of connection to others, our thoughts and feelings, and being able to manage life’s highs and lows.

The presence or absence of a mental illness is not a predictor of being healthy mentally; someone without a mental illness could have poor mental health, just as a person with a mental illness could have excellent mental health.

Read more on the CMHA website!

What does this have to do with me?

It has really only been in my lifetime that we have started talking openly about this aspect of our wellbeing. If you are a little older, you may well remember a time when feelings simply were not discussed. Maintaining composure and bottling things up were signs of strength. We have moved beyond that, now. There is a growing permission to name what is true for all of us: we are resilient; we are vulnerable.

Our emotional and processing health needs the same attention we might give a tummy ache, a broken leg, or a migraine. Minding our emotions and overall wellbeing is as important as taking care of our cardiovascular system.

In wobbly times like these, turning attention inward is important. We are learning to take care of our self — maybe with some of the same compassion we are quick to offer each other!

How can I help my loved ones?

And that compassion that you so readily turn toward your friends and family is important. Do you need to tag in some extra support? Here are a few of the charities that we work alongside through vehicle donation:

Your local chapter of the CMHA

Breaking Free Foundation

Crisis Intervention & Suicide Prevention Centre of BC

Horizons For Youth

Kids Help Phone

Mental Health Foundation

Sunshine Therapy Dogs

Umbrella Society for Addictions & Mental Health

Westman Mental Wellness & Suicide Prevention

Your local Distress Centre

How you can help your mental health charity today

Perhaps you would like to give the cause you love a little extra back up? The charities named above are just a few — your car, you choice! You can gift your vehicle to ANY Canadian charity. Aid the work of the cause you love by donating your car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle. Re-sold or recycled, it will bring a valuable donation. The tow is always free. Moreover, you will receive a tax receipt from your charity, too!

Not quite ready to donate? Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter! There you will get an overall feel for how we care for each other and our charities. This is a caring community, here to serve you.

From scrappers to sweet rides, Hyundai Accents, Tucsons, Sonatas, and Santa Fes are rolling in donation dollars for hundreds of Canadian charities!

Donated Hyundai models raise thousands of dollars for charity

Just a few minutes ago I had the happy experience of engaging a Hyundai Tucson donor. Her trusty and beloved ol’ girl is ready to come off the road. The donor is having a hard time letting her go, but she’s excited to be donating to her charity of choice. In this case, she’s giving to a human rights organization.

We’re working on a Santa Fe donation for a hospital foundation, too. An Accent donation is going to Ronald McDonald House Charities this month end. The Canadian Red Cross will see the proceeds from a Sonata donation drive on up shortly, and an Elantra will benefit the ALS Society.

Every car counts!

Re-sale ready vehicles are a boon for charities coast to coast. Whenever possible, our cooperating agents re-sell donated vehicles to the highest bidder. Vehicles are sold as-is (no repairs are done on the vehicles prior to sale).

If your Hyundai is rusted out and ready for crushing, no problem! We’ll process your vehicle for recycling.

Either way, the net proceeds can go to ANY Canadian charity. You can simply choose one from our drop down list on your donation form. ‘Still not sure about who to gift? Pop over to CanadaHelps!

Remember: the tow is always free!

Does the charity get the Hyundai? Or just the money from the sale?

Donate a Car Canada facilitates the sale of all donated vehicles. As mentioned, this is done by either recycling or re-selling the cars, trucks, vans, and motorcycles. Boats and RVs are occasionally processed through auction as well! The net proceeds from those sales are sent right off to each donor’s chosen charity.

For the charity to manage this process for themselves would be costly and cumbersome. From paperwork to towing to processing, a LOT goes into managing a donated vehicle. We take care of all of the details so the charity can just keep doing what it already does best: fulfilling its mission within your community, your world. CanadaHelps has a part in this, too. In addition to tending the possibility of donation to Canada’s thousands of charities, they also facilitate the tax receipt process for donated vehicles. Yet another effort spared your charity of choice!

Ready to donate? It’s simple, quick, and free. And hoping for exceptional customer care from real, live humans? You’ll receive 5 star treatment here. All day. Every day.

We’re ready to see your donation form! Need more information? Call us at 1-877-250-4904, Monday – Friday. Hyundai (or Honda…Ford…Dodge…Tesla…) ready to roll? We’ve got you covered!

Feeling a little overwhelmed by it all? Noticing that you are actively looking for ways to live the simple life because everything everywhere just feels nutso? In some ways, that’s harder than we imagine. On the other hand, it can be much easier than we think!

Streamlining the simple life one donor at a time

A 2006 Ford Escape donor recently reminded us of the value of seeking out the simple life:

“I had this car for 6 years, difficult for me to part with it now, just
difficult to continue paying insurance and find a place to park. This car
has taken me to many places without breaking down, truly appreciated the
service I received.”

Letting go of a beloved vehicle is not easy. It can be emotional. Some donors say that it’s like losing a member of the family.

And, sometimes letting go of a complicating factor in full and overwhelming lives brings a sigh of relief. This is made so much easier when you know that the letting go will aid a good cause.

Our Ford Escape donor added a layer of goodness to his gift by naming a charity that was new to us! He chose Life Water as his charity of choice. In no time, we had the charity set up and ready to receive donations from future vehicle donors!

ps: We help charities live the simple life, too! There are no costs or tasks for the charity in this process. From donation to tax receipt, the charity is looked after.

Why donate instead of selling privately?

Another comment we have been hearing from donors for our twenty years in vehicle donation support? “I was going to sell it privately, but…”:

But I just don’t have time to spend on this right now. Life is so busy!

But it is such a hassle to deal with tire-kickers! There are so few interested buyers and so many wasted hours spent on cranks.

But I’m settling out the rest of the estate. I just needed one thing to be easy, painless.

But I really just want to do something good for the charity I love!

Like our Ford Escape donor, they know something about balancing the stresses of life and the wish to live a simple, generous life.

The simple life made a little simpler – one free tow at a time

Every donated vehicle is assessed for either re-sale or recycle. The effort is to re-sell whenever possible; we endeavor to raise the highest donation possible for the donor’s charity of choice. This ensures the strongest tax receipt for the donor, too! While we do not typically see Blue/Black Book values on our re-sales, we do see strong monetary returns that reflect the spread in the used vehicle market at the time of donation.

One of ways we ensure simplicity, speed, and no-cost support is fabulous agent care. Donors receive a call to arrange tow support within 48 hours of the time of donation. Then, having set up a time convenient to the donor, they provide free tow support.

If you take a peep at our socials and Google Reviews you’ll see the relief and gratitude this inspires!

If you’re looking for one thing to be quick, easy, and free in your life, we’re here to make it happen. We can’t wait to see your vehicle submission!

Habitat for Humanity Canada has been on the leading edge of actively addressing housing security for decades. They envision a world where everyone has a safe place to live. They bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

“Unfortunately, for too many Canadians, that right is not realized. Canada is in an affordable housing crisis and too many people across the country do not have the homes they need.“

Habitat for Humanity and your donation-ready vehicle

Donate a Car Canada has been serving various H4H branches since 2014. Our early relationship was with the Quebec, Kingston/Limestone, and Victoria branches. Edmonton signed on next, and many other regions followed! Most recently, Sunshine Coast jumped on board!

These various chapters have seen thousands of donation dollars through vehicle donors whose concern is housing insecurity and equity. The Sarnia-Lambton region has received over $40,000.00 in car donations through the years! Others have a smaller showing, but we know there are many more vehicles rolling their way in good time.

Happening in real time!

Cars for homes are being donated as we speak! As I write, we are working on 2 Honda donations for Habitat. A Toyota, Chevy, Lincoln, BMW, and Mini Cooper are all in the works, too. BC and Ontario H4H chapters will be the surprised recipients this month end.

Giving this way is simple, prompt, and free — for donor and charity alike. We manage the process from submission form to pick-up to tax receipt (through CanadaHelps). So, your local H4H branch need do nothing but sit back and wait for your donation dollars to drive right up!

If housing security is your cause of choice, we’re here to help! We’re a click, a call (1-877-250-4904), or a submission form away. We can’t wait to work alongside you in turning your vehicle into valuable donation dollars for Habitat for Humanity!

Donating cars for Canadian charities is a multi-benefit process! Charity, donor, local business, and environment are all winners when you donate your vehicle.

Donating cars serves donor, community, and caring causes

There are a number of questions that folx ask when considering donating cars:

How fast can you get here?

Is my vehicle acceptable?

How much is my tax receipt?

Well, first, our transport agents will get to you lickity-split! Many donors express surprise at how quickly and efficiently they receive their free tow. On the other hand, if you need some time, no problem! The agent will happily put things on pause until you are ready to proceed.

Second, yes! Recycle-ready vehicles make great donations! Some of our supporting agents do require that there be four tires in place. These don’t need to be in great shape — even spares will do just fine. The agents simply need to be able to roll things to the yard in a safe and cost effective manner. Of course, if there are missing parts, the scrap donation outcome may be reduced as agents determine value, in part, based on curb weight.

We either re-sell, or recycle, vehicles. Here’s more on that…

More about how your tax receipt is determined

1) If your vehicle is selected for our recycle process, the donation amount for a vehicle can be between $30.00 – $800.00. This is dependent on the area in which it is donated, and what the market will pay for the year/make/model. The vehicle will be picked up by our towing agent at no cost to you.

2) Your vehicle may be considered for sale at auction. Several factors go into qualifying a vehicle for auction. These include, but are not limited to, drivability, type of mechanical problems (if any), age, damage, visual appearance, and mileage.

Vehicles sold at auction are sold ‘as is’ and ‘unreserved’. They are sold to the highest bidder, as a full and final sale. Outcome at auction varies. As such, we cannot guarantee a specific sale result. That said, it is no unusual to see thousands of dollars sent to charities of choice when donating cars and auction sales align!

3) Our third option applies to vehicles that may not perform well at auction, but that are not ready for recycling. Our re-sale/recycle process will see our agent pick up your vehicle for free.

Once they have it on their yard they will assess it to determine if it should be re-sold or recycled. This will be based on the current market. If they see re-sale value in your vehicle, they will advertise it to their own buyer base, selling it as-is, to the highest bidder. They will send us the net proceeds from the re-sale price. If they determine that they will not find interested buyers, they will recycle your car.

Our experience tells us that we do not always see Blue/Black book value when we employ the re-sale process. That said, if you explore our social media posts you’ll see that we routinely see vehicles sell for thousands of dollars in donation returns for the donors’ charities!

The less visible benefits of donating cars

Donating cars benefits charities, to be sure. Every coin counts and your vehicle donation really piles up those coins! A tidy-sum tax receipt is always a bonus at tax time, too. But there are benefits the go beyond the bank, as well!

Environmental impact is one such bonus. Safe and clean vehicle removal declutters yards and neighbourhoods. Furthermore, proper disposal of fluids and parts ensures responsible Earth care.

Donate a Car Canada is Canadian through-and-through. We understand that building and sustaining business within your community is important. One of the ways we keep our own cost of business low is by partnering with your local auction yards, re-sale agents, and scrap yards. So, donating cars here keeps as much business local as is economically responsible.

Vehicle. Charity of choice. Community.

Not all Canadians are donating cars. If you need cash in hand, private sale may be the way to go. But if you have an unused, unwanted vehicle? Done with it and want to do good with it? Donating is a multi-goodness way to go!

“I’m just calling to get more information about your program — are you a scam?” The short answer is, “No,” and we’re glad you asked! Car donation scams, like all sorts of other online peculiarities, are out there.

A bit about Donate a Car Canada

Donate a Car Canada is an Alberta-based business that has been in operation for over two decades. We work on behalf of any charity in Canada — all across the country. That’s right! We serve in every province! Our role is to help you turn your donation-ready car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle into a monetary gift for your charity of choice.

We do this by assigning the vehicle to our cooperating agents for your free tow service. We work with recyclers, re-sellers, and auction house/re-sale agents. The vehicle is sold as-is to the highest bidder, or as scrap metal/parts.

If your interested, you can check us out at the Better Business Bureau. Many of our receiving charities will welcome a call to reassure of our long-standing care and integrity, too!

Car donation scams: how can I tell?

Big promises are a big red flag! A good thing to look out for in vetting a program’s legitimacy is the dollar value they’re offering: does it reflect the market?

The metal market goes up and down — a lot! The weight of the metal in a compact car is different from a truck, or a van. A vehicle donation program should be paid out based on that value. Parts also add value, for some kinds of vehicles. By the time the scrap yard working with you drains the fluids, takes care of the tires, strips the saleable parts, and crushes the car, they may be out of pocket.

You can also ask yourself:

How long has the program been around?

Can I find online reviews (good and bad)?

Is the program open about how fees are applied?

Can I talk to a real person to get answers about my concerns? How is their customer service?

If you can comfortably answer these questions, you may find yourself in very good hands!

What do I do first?

Canada is home to very few reputable vehicle donation programs, Donate a Car Canada being one of them. A quick phone call to the agency promising to process your car, truck, or van for donation is a safe first step! If they’re legitimate they will be able to provide clear answers about how they arrive at the numbers they are offering. Furthermore, you might want to actually visit the charity website that you wish to donate to: the option to donate a vehicle to them should be discoverable on their actual website.

Your phone calls and email queries are welcome here! Our experienced staff are in daily contact with agents from coast to coast. These folks know the industry well and can typically spot car donation scams a mile away. They also want to see your donation dollars maxed. Working on behalf of the charities our neighbors across Canada love? That’s ultimately what this is about.

‘Got questions about our program, or our charities? Interested in going ahead with a donation? Call in to 1-877-250-4904, or click the big red button below…

Did you know that when you donate a car, van, truck, or SUV you get a free tow? It’s quick, simple, and free — for you and for your charity of choice! Behind that free tow? We’d love for you to meet Angelo!

All about your free tow (Or, Why you’ll love our agents!)

Have you had a minute to hang out on our socials? Pop ’round to Face Book or Instagram. It’s all there. One review after another after another after another! Vehicle donors love our free-tow agents, and Angelo is one of the very best!

Many of our recycle and re-sale agents have been working alongside us for over 10 years. In every province, through rain, sleet, hail, and snow, they keep right on truckin’. They’ve hauled motorized wheelchairs and motorhomes; they strap on motorcycles and hot rods. And they really do tow everything in between!

Furthermore, they do it cheerfully — with such good humour, compassion, and care!

They get it. Understanding that donating your vehicle is a serious endeavor, they treat it seriously. They appreciate that letting a vehicle go can be emotional (sometimes that emotion is relief; sometimes it feels surprisingly sad).

Taking time out to photograph a donor with their beloved donation is pretty commonplace out there in the wilds of donation! This is the kind of service Angelo has provided, year in and year out.

A tip of our hat

We have grown to respect and love this outstanding transport agent. Angelo has been the man on the truck for Everclear Metal Recycling in BC for decades. You read that right: Decades!

We’ve lost track of our first encounter with him, but he has been serving BC vehicle donors with kindness, reliability, and flexibility for years. Donors love him. Like, they really really dig this guy.

Now, after hitting a milestone birthday, Angelo is hanging up the tow hook. It seems like a fitting time to honour the care and commitment he’s shown the hundreds of Canadians he’s worked with as they supported their chosen charities.

Five reviews that say it best

Angelo’s service from the truck has rippled out to impact several hundred Canadian charities and (no exaggeration!) hundreds and hundreds of Canadian donors. Here are just a few of their comments:

L.O., a Dodge Ram donor for The Whole Dyslexic Society wrote, “Thank you!!! It was a really emotional day and Angelo – the tow driver – was so sweet. I warned him that I might cry and he said he’s been through it 100’s of times. Then he started making jokes like he’s always the “bad guy” so we got laughing. He was so calm and understanding. And he did this for us on a Sunday! We were going out to Langley for a family reunion and I thought doing this with family around who know the history and meaningfulness of that vehicle would really help and it was no problem at all for him to meet us on a Sunday. We stayed in continual communication, phone and then texting. I appreciated that he was in communication and so easily with text. Not everyone is comfortable with texting – he was great.”

Knowledge Network Corporation Chevy S10 donor, K.S., was excited to answer our check in queries, “Did you receive a call from our tow agent in a timely and cheerful manner?”

Yes- in fact ANGELO from Everclear Metal Recycling called promptly. opened with a joke, gave me all of the information.

“Were you happy with the tow service?” ABSOLUTELY- Again, ANGELO from EVERCLEAR METAL RECYCLING told me the process, called to confirm the time, called when he was 5 minutes away, and then chatted with me while he worked. He was charming in the best way possible- from the heart. The 2000 Chevy S10 had been my husband’s truck and he passed away from cancer. So seeing the truck go made me sad. Angelo somehow knows that even old vehicles have stories, and often meaning to their owners. The world needs more Angelos!!!!

When W.N. donated their Hyundai Sonata for Diabetes Canada they noted, “All around the experience with your program was excellent. Angelo, the tow agent couldn’t have been more , pleasant. He was courteous and friendly. If there is a word better than excellent that is how I describe Angelo.“

The world needs more Angelos

A ’95 Chevy Lumina donor for a children’s charity stated simply, “This experience was quick and painless. Thank you for making it so easy. Finely tuned machine! The tow agent was friendly, prompt and very cheerful. Thanks for the great service!”

A content Toyota Tercel donor for Covenant House Vancouver said, “I received a phone call from Angelo. He was very cheerful and gave me lots of notice about the day/time he would come and take the car. The night before, he called again to confirm that he was coming, and we had a nice chat when he loaded the car onto the back of his truck. It only took about 15 minutes for the entire visit, again, faster than I’d expected.”

Angelo has received so many of these gently positive notes over the years.

He brings a famous Martin Luther King quote to mind,

~ If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.’ ~

Operating machinery in all kinds of weather isn’t for just anyone. Navigating all kinds of weather and traffic and changing times — also not for just anybody. Angelo is a man with a unique set of skills who went about his everyday job with a whole lot of human kindness, good humour, and consistency. To say he did it “well” is an understatement. I don’t know about the “hosts of heaven,” but we have certainly heard a host of humans who have had nothing but praise for the guy holding the keys to hauling their donated four-wheeled gift.

Quick, simple, easy

Your free tow is just a few minutes from being booked! First, click here:

Take less than 10 minutes to fill in that form.

Then, just sit back and wait for your confirmation email (with lots of goodies about your tow agent). The agent will call you to make pick-up arrangements that suit you best.

From there it’s just a matter of time until we disburse your gift. You can select any Canadian charity as your car donation recipient. You read that right: ANY charity in Canada can receive your vehicle donation proceeds!

Although we are sorry to say that Angelo won’t be the hero behind the wheel for your transport process, we are confident that you will be served with efficiency and excellent donor care. Here at Donate a Car Canada it’s all about your car, and your charity of choice. We are committed to honouring Angelo’s exceptional career by continuing the work of bringing valuable vehicle donations for the charities Canadians love!

Fundraising, philanthropy, community engagement and your charity. Do your donors know they can donate a vehicle to your work? Do they know that this is a key aspect of estate/legacy giving?

Your unique donor, their personalized experience

Vehicle donation is a big decision. Donors make the choice to give to their charities in this way for many reasons. Some simple reasons. Often times? They are donating from a deeply personal, and sometimes emotional, place.

We care about their story and their gift as much as you do. That’s why they are guaranteed charity of choice. If you are the charity they love, the gift should get to you.

How much does vehicle donation fundraising cost?

There is no cost to you (the charity), or to your donor when a car is donated.

You read that right. Zero dollars. No charge! Even the donor’s tow is free!

Your investment as a charity is going to be twofold:

You are a few steps away from having this all set up!

Share, share, share this opportunity with your donors. If they don’t know they can donate you their vehicle they won’t. So, be sure your charity and Donate a Car Canada are linked-up on your website. Charities that promote car donation receive car donations. Simple!

We make step 2 very easy for your organization. We have links all prepared. You will even receive digital materials that you can simply click-copy-paste to your socials and your website. These are all colour-matched to your charity.

My charity is ready to roll! What now?

If one of your donors is already asking about how to donate a car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle to your work, they can just go right ahead. We have a system in place for donors who are giving a vehicle to a charity that is not yet on our list.

As a charity, you can set things in motion in one of two ways,

Call in to 1-877-250-4904 and ask to chat with our charities coordinator. They will be happy to walk you through the process.

Or, simply visit us via our “Fundraising” tab on our ‘site. That will connect you to a bit of necessary paperwork and explain many of the details of this process. You can take the documents you find there to your fundraising crew, your board, or whomever you wish.

We are so excited to work alongside your charity in this way!

We are celebrating! For twenty years, Canadian vehicle donors have been re-selling and recycling their cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, and motorcycles through Donate a Car Canada. Some have even donated a boat or an RV! Every car counts, and donors can choose ANY Canadian charity as the recipient of their gift!

20 years in and vehicle donors are giving strong!

As with any sharing opportunity that’s touched by the global economy, our program has seen its ups and downs. When metal prices go up, so do vehicle donation dollars. When anomalous fluctuations in the used or new car markets hit, so do the outcomes we see for charities. We’ve had a pretty wild ride these first couple of decades!

The constant through it all? The unabashed kindness and generosity of Canadians.

Every hour of the business day (which, for us, starts somewhere around 8:00 am MT and winds up somewhere around 8:00 pm MT — 363 days a year!) we have the happiest of roles: we hang out with giving folks!

And when we’re not processing a vehicle donation, setting up a free tow, or supporting an estate settling process? We’re connecting with the charities that donors have chosen to give to!

Donors and their charities are the best of us all. They contribute to our overall quality of life through intentional caring. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

The math on those donation dollars

Donate a Car Canada’s first 20 years have seen donors hit some crazy dollar amounts! Here are some individual donation outcomes that will inspire your socks off:

Check out the donation outcome on 2023’s Tesla donation (Spoiler alert! It earned over $66,000.00 for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation!).

Or read about a 2015 successful auction sale of a beautiful Mercedes that drew a donation of over$27,000.00 for Prostate Cancer Canada!

And not to be forgotten, just this summer a gorgeous vintage Model A Ford raised almost $11,000.00 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

And what about overall outcomes for certain charities? Vehicle donors have filled the coffers to the tune of…

Canadian Cancer Society: Close to $2 million!

Canadian Red Cross: Almost half a million dollars!

Diabetes Canada: Just under $1 million donation dollars and cents!

Heart & Stroke Foundation Canada: Just short of $1 million helping dollars!

These are just a few of the more recognizable charity names supported by donors. Hundreds and hundreds (and hundreds) of lesser known organizations have received thousands of dollars, too. And these numbers will continue to climb as long as givers like you choose to donate their unused, unwanted vehicles for critters, conservation, health, education, research, and community care!

Caring at every turn of the road

Canadian vehicle donors are as diverse the cars they drive. We are excited to provide each of them with exceptional, friendly, timely donor support. You’ll discover this for yourself when you donate a beloved (or despised!) car. The donation process is simple and quick. You can manage everything online (never speaking to a human soul at all). You can interact with us and your tow crew over the phone if you prefer! We’re a friendly and funny little crew. The donation process is here for you. And, as you’ve discovered already, you really will be met at every curve in the highway: from charity of choice to tow support to communications. This gig is all about you, generosity, and Canadian kindness!
