Fast facts | The Canadian Mental Health Association breaks it down

Mental health and mental illness: what is the difference?

Illness and health are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same thing.

“Mental health” is a concept similar to “physical health”: it refers to a state of well-being. It includes our emotions, feelings of connection to others, our thoughts and feelings, and being able to manage life’s highs and lows.

The presence or absence of a mental illness is not a predictor of being healthy mentally; someone without a mental illness could have poor mental health, just as a person with a mental illness could have excellent mental health.

Read more on the CMHA website!

What does this have to do with me?

It has really only been in my lifetime that we have started talking openly about this aspect of our wellbeing. If you are a little older, you may well remember a time when feelings simply were not discussed. Maintaining composure and bottling things up were signs of strength. We have moved beyond that, now. There is a growing permission to name what is true for all of us: we are resilient; we are vulnerable.

Our emotional and processing health needs the same attention we might give a tummy ache, a broken leg, or a migraine. Minding our emotions and overall wellbeing is as important as taking care of our cardiovascular system.

In wobbly times like these, turning attention inward is important. We are learning to take care of our self — maybe with some of the same compassion we are quick to offer each other!

How can I help my loved ones?

And that compassion that you so readily turn toward your friends and family is important. Do you need to tag in some extra support? Here are a few of the charities that we work alongside through vehicle donation:

Your local chapter of the CMHA

Breaking Free Foundation

Crisis Intervention & Suicide Prevention Centre of BC

Horizons For Youth

Kids Help Phone

Mental Health Foundation

Sunshine Therapy Dogs

Umbrella Society for Addictions & Mental Health

Westman Mental Wellness & Suicide Prevention

Your local Distress Centre

How you can help your mental health charity today

Perhaps you would like to give the cause you love a little extra back up? The charities named above are just a few — your car, you choice! You can gift your vehicle to ANY Canadian charity. Aid the work of the cause you love by donating your car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle. Re-sold or recycled, it will bring a valuable donation. The tow is always free. Moreover, you will receive a tax receipt from your charity, too!

Not quite ready to donate? Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter! There you will get an overall feel for how we care for each other and our charities. This is a caring community, here to serve you.

Special days like Rock Your Socks (World Down Syndrome Day), International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and International Day of Forests — all of which are happening right now — inspire us to lend a hand, lend support, and do our part to drive change.

March is a month chalk-a-block with special days!

We’ll name just a few of March’s drive change special days. In a month that has so very many, opting to hone in on just three came down to choosing one day (today!).

Have you heard the call to Rock Your Socks? Every year, World Down Syndrome Day is an invitation to join communities around the globe in promoting awareness, inclusion, and understanding. It’s about uplifting the unique strengths and contributions of people with Down Syndrome. We are all made stronger when we honour and support individuals with diverse abilities. We advocate for a community where everyone belongs, participates, and thrives. This is a celebratory day where supportive folx are invited to “rock your socks” (by wearing your most fabulous, fancy, funny pair) and choose to include!

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

“While much progress has been made, Indigenous peoples, and racialized and religious minority communities in Canada continue to face racism and discrimination every day. This day serves as a call to action for individuals, organizations, and all levels of government to actively work to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination, injustice, systemic racism and hate. Re-committing efforts, to ensure all people are respected and have equal access and opportunity to be safe and to succeed.” (Government of Canada)

International Day of Forests

Tree Canada (one of our receiving charities) notes, “Today we celebrate International Day of Forests, a day where people across the globe commemorate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests.

This year’s theme – Forests and health – reminds us to appreciate forests, both urban and rural, for the benefits they offer our health.

Did you know? Trees help us live longer, healthier lives. Exposure to nature reduces stress, speeds healing, and helps improve mental health. Research shows that walking through a forest for just 15 minutes can lower symptoms of anxiety and depression and boost positive moods.”

3 inspiring reminders, 1 simple way to drive change

While March 21st may have played out as just a regular ol’ day for most of us here in Canada, it also serves as a reminder that there are unique needs in our amazing country. You and I can deploy our human kindness superpower and drive change for any one of the three special areas named here. Or, we can choose from literally thousands of other needs that would be most helped by our individual efforts.

For us here at Donate a Car, we’ve honed a compassionate and practical method to drive change. It’s all in the name! Every donated car, truck, motorcycle, SUV, or van counts. Every donation dollar that results from the re-sale or recycling of unused/unwanted makes a difference!

Passionate about trees? Donate for conservation!

Moved by issues of racism, exclusion, bullying, or marginalization? Or, we might say, moved by issues of equality, inclusion, diversity, and dignity? Your charity of choice is ready to put your donation dollars to exceptional work.

It really is this easy to drive change!

There are just three steps to donating a vehicle:

Fill in an online form (This takes less than 10 minutes.)

Sit back and wait for the phone to ring (It’s your tow agent call to set up your free tow!)

Finally, watch your in box (That’s where your tax receipt will land after your vehicle is re-sold or recycled.)

There’s not cost to you. Your charity of choice will pay $0.00. They won’t have to lift a finger. Even the tax receipt process will be looked after for them by CanadaHelps.

You. Me. Together we are making a difference. One vehicle at a time.

Vehicle donor stories are as funny, fabulous, and heart-warming as the donors themselves. Everyone who opts to give in this way has a personal reason for their generosity. It may be as simple as the need to clear out the garage; it is often about honouring the human, or cause, they care most about.

Donor stories reflect the personality of Canadian generosity

Gary donated his Toyota Tercel for The Knowledge Network:

“The donation experience was easy and expeditious. Your timely and clear emails made the process straight forward so there was no need to talk to your staff.

Taylor, the SMC tow man, was absolutely great. He phoned immediately and appeared exactly between 10 and 12 AM on the designated day. He was friendly, helpful, and sympathetic to our loss of a car that never quit over 26 years. As he drove away, he must have seen that we were taking pictures, and a brawny arm waved good-bye from the driver’s window. He turned a hapless accident into a rather sweet experience. Thanks all around.”

We raised $821.50 for the Canadian Red Cross when Jean donated her VW Tiguan. It was important to her that we know,

“A myriad of issues: Engine light is on – it’s apparently to do with the environmental filtering; the shocks have cracks in them, still work, but might need replacing soon; the airbag light has been on for a while; the clock spring appears to be broken – none of the steering electronics work, including the horn; there is significant rust forming on the driver’s side door; the windshield has a small chip/crack where a rock flew into it; the rear windshield wiper has broken off; given the valuation, the repairs would cost more than the car is worth.

IT CAN BE DRIVEN AT PRESENT, so long as the battery gets a jump. But with no working horn, I don’t think it is technically road-worthy. Note: I’m also donating the summer tires (which are in the backseat). The winter tires are on the car.”

Short and to-the-point donor stories

“We would rather donate it than fix it.” 2014 Ford F-150 for the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation

“I want my donation to go to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.” This 2010 Toyota Yaris donor’s charity choice was story in itself. They were the IRSSS’s first vehicle donor. Thanks to their gift we were able to add the charity to our own drop-down list.

“I was in the process of rebuilding it as it is a vintage vehicle. The engine turns over beautifully and all the parts are there.” This donor’s 1958 Cadillac Seville was auctioned for the Action Coalition on Human Trafficking Alberta Association.

A Suzuki Grand Vitara donor for Habitat for Humanity donor noted, “Very happy to have helped.” And help she did! Her vehicle was auctioned for a $2030.87 donation!

Long(er) and full-of-heart donor stories

“Dear Donate a Car Canada:
The towing gentleman was wonderful!! Very understanding and helpful. He
showed great consideration and care attaching her to the tow truck.
He also allowed my brother & I to say our goodbyes.
He understood my feelings of sadness of letting go of a vehicle which has
been an important part of my life.
Good vehicles are easy to find but when you find a great vehicle it becomes
a part of you. She was a member of my family.
He is a wonderful, thoughtful man. Please thank him for me.
I am thankful for Donate A Car Canada as I know “Subbie” is going to a
great cause.
It is comforting to know the proceeds are going to the Cancer Society.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. God Bless you all.” ~ 2008 Subaru Forester donor for the Canadian Cancer Society

Then, a 2012 Hyundai Genesis Sedan wrote,

“The Genesis is in good condition. No mechanical issues, good visual condition, no rust showing.

As mentioned, the car has been sitting a while and battery is dead. It might start with a boost, but unlikely given the time.

I also include a complete set of snow tires on rims. Tires (Michelin) somewhat worn down, but still useful.

The tires currently on are all seasons and in great shape.

I maintained it very well over the years. There are no mechanical issues, and there is no rust. It has just been sitting for a while. It just needs another battery if it does not boost.

I would certainly hope that it can be sold at auction.”

And sold at auction it was! The donation outcome? A whopping $5357.90 for the Canadian Institute for Advancements in Mental Health!

It’s time to add your very own donor story

Follow us on our socials (we’re on Face Book and Instagram) to connect with the hundreds of happy vehicle donors there. Better yet? Donate a car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle today! The tow is free, and you’ll receive a tax receipt for the net proceeds of the re-sale or recycle of your vehicle.

We’re a click or a call (1-877-250-4904) away and we can’t wait to work with you on behalf of the charity you love!

Paralympics in the spotlight

Last night was a late night: I stayed up to watch Canada and the U.S. reach for gold in women’s hockey! There is something truly joyful in cheering for those who have worked hard at what they love. Happily, the thrill of witnessing excellence in sport is just a few days in. There is so much more to come in the weeks ahead!

The Canadian Paralympic Committee reports that the games will run from “March 6 to 15 March 2026 and feature six sports – Para alpine skiing, Para biathlon, Para cross-country skiing, Para ice hockey, Para snowboarding, wheelchair curling.”

They go on to say that we could have as many as 600 athletes and up to 79 medal events! Visit the CPC website to learn how, “Paralympic athletes are world-class competitors.” They have “…remarkable stories that can make an impact on people of all ages. Paralympic sport is truly super exciting to watch and follow.”

Cheer the team, care close to home

I am writing this from the comfort of my own couch. In fact, I am barely an armchair athlete, let alone a real athlete! Maybe you can relate?

I am aware of “abilities” and “disabilities” in a different way when an Olympic torchlight shines on Canadians. My work history includes some years spent in respite care (in homes, and in the school system). During those years I worked with children and adults with diverse in strengths and abilities. I have some small understanding of what it takes for our differently abled athletes to get where they are. Competition on a world stage is a playful reminder. Let’s cheer and support our fellows for whom everyday life is made more complicated by unique challenges.

Canada is home to charities whose aim it is to ensure accessibility. They work for equality, and inclusion for all Canadians. To that end, these are community-focused works. Some are working in our schools. Many are passionate about ensuring opportunities in work and sports.

While we cheer the wins and losses of athletes in Beijing this winter, we can support those our athletes represent here at home.

Giving where you care

Your car, truck, van, SUV, or motorcycle can help. An unused, unwanted, and in-the-way car turns into big dollars for charity here at Donate a Car!

A quick definition for clarity on who’s who (from one of our charities, Special Olympics BC):

“Special Olympics is solely for athletes with intellectual disabilities. The Paralympics focus more on physical disabilities. The Olympics and Paralympics are about elite competition and specialization…”

Our wish here is simply to bring our attention to our country’s athletes and to all people who are differently abled. That said, are you looking for a charity that is focused on athletics? Look no further! Or, if you prefer to give to a work with a different focus, no problem. Either way, consider one of these groups as your charity of choice:

Cerebral Palsy Alberta

Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association (CCPSA)

Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba

Christian Horizons

CNIB

Connected In Motion

Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary

Edmonton Down Syndrome Society

Elves Special Needs Society

Special Olympics Calgary

Special Olympics British Columbia Society

Winnifred Stewart Foundation

YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region

We’re ready to roll when you are

Our online form takes less than 10 minutes to fill out, if you are ready to go ahead. Donations move along at the pace that suits you best. It is standard for a car to go from “donated” to picked-up within 3 – 5 business days. So, if you have a car that needs to get out of the drive way, we can help in a hurry!

We make estate donations easy, too. This can be a gentle way for an executor or Power of Attorney to care for a loved one.

Not only that, business owners find this process quick and efficient. ‘Need to move old fleet or business vehicles? We can tackle the details and move the units so you don’t have to.

Keep this creative sort of human kindness in mind as you settle into the couch to watch your favourite Olympic sport this winter! Better yet, fill in your donation form while watching your athletes go for gold! We’re one click away…

Habitat for Humanity Canada and Donate a Car Canada have been collaborating since 2014! DYK you can donate your unused vehicle for any Canadian chapter? Re-sale and recycle ready vehicles all make a big difference. We’re working on seven active donations at the time of this writing!

Help raise a roof with Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity Canada has been on the leading edge of actively addressing housing security for decades. They envision a world where everyone has a safe place to live. They bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

“Unfortunately, for too many Canadians, that right is not realized. Canada is in an affordable housing crisis and too many people across the country do not have the homes they need.“

Habitat for Humanity and your donation-ready vehicle

Donate a Car Canada has been serving various H4H branches since 2014. Our early relationship was with the Quebec, Kingston/Limestone, and Victoria branches. Edmonton signed on next, and many other regions followed! Most recently, Sunshine Coast jumped on board!

These various chapters have seen thousands of donation dollars through vehicle donors whose concern is housing insecurity and equity. The Sarnia-Lambton region has received over $40,000.00 in car donations through the years! Others have a smaller showing, but we know there are many more vehicles rolling their way in good time.

Happening in real time!

Cars for homes are being donated as we speak! As I write, we are working on 2 Honda donations for Habitat. A Toyota, Chevy, Lincoln, BMW, and Mini Cooper are all in the works, too. BC and Ontario H4H chapters will be the surprised recipients this month end.

Giving this way is simple, prompt, and free — for donor and charity alike. We manage the process from submission form to pick-up to tax receipt (through CanadaHelps). So, your local H4H branch need do nothing but sit back and wait for your donation dollars to drive right up!

If housing security is your cause of choice, we’re here to help! We’re a click, a call (1-877-250-4904), or a submission form away. We can’t wait to work alongside you in turning your vehicle into valuable donation dollars for Habitat for Humanity!

Honouring World Day of Social Justice is about all of us. It is a day to promote social justice and raise awareness about worldwide issues like poverty, gender inequality, unemployment, and human rights. That it falls in the heart of Kindness Week seems about right!

Social justice and basic human kindness – what a pair!

Social justice and freedom are deeply connected. If we’re not thinking much about a need for shelter, food, equal pay, or basic human rights…well…it might mean things are going pretty well for us!

On the other hand, if we or our children are going to bed with an empty tummy, social justice might be top-of-mind.

Equity, dignity, basic human dignity — these things are felt most keenly in their absence. If you have been marginalized, you know. You. Know.

At the heart of social justice is one simple reality: human compassion. Human kindness. If I can perspective take (even so very fleetingly) on what it might like to be you? Then, no matter how different you and I are, suddenly all that matters is that all be afforded the same basic rights. If I can feel your suffering, even just a little, perhaps I will lean into searching for restorative action. What follows: action that allows all of us to flourish together.

But how can we make an actual difference?

Tipping the needle of food and housing security seems a daunting task. Gender equality? How is that a thing we’re talking about in the 2000’s? That any Canadian citizen is unsure of their safety in our streets, in our towns, in their jobs? Unthinkable. And here we are.

The happy news? You and I are the change. Every dignifying, inclusive, evolving understanding act we take counts. This Kindness Week, experiment with your own acts of justice. They can be so small: listen to folx with differing points of view. Learn something new about a demographic or people group you are unfamiliar with. Hold open a door. Reach out to a loved one. Just be kind, attentive, caring You.

If you’re curious about matters of social justice in Canada, start exploring your local charities. You wouldn’t believe how many thousands of Canadians are working toward a more inclusive, safe, and nourished world right in your own back yard!

We’re in this together

As long as you are doing your part, and I mine? Issues like housing insecurity, food insecurity can be a thing of the past. If we are evolving our understanding of points of view and quick to share what we have? Then it won’t be long until being Canadian will be synonymous with equity, equality, safety, and provision.

‘Looking for giving events and adventures near you this Family Day? Read on!

Things to do on Family Day

Or, on Heritage Day, Louis Riel Day, Nova Scotia Heritage Day, and Islander Day (depending where you live in this great country of ours!)

Wherever you live in Canada, and whichever province you call home, a stat holiday in the heart of winter can only be a good thing! Are you and the humans you like best looking for things to do this Family Day?

Around here, it’s all about the giving. However your own province acknowledges the significance of Monday’s stat, a little lovingkindness can only make the day better!

So, gather your best humans around you and let’s get to imagining unique ways to spend the day!

Getting Informed

First things first: take a good look around. Who are the charities serving in your community? What do they need? Think big and broadly! You’ll be amazed to know that there are (no exaggeration) thousands (1,000’s!) of charities in our country. When looking for things to do on Family Day, consider doing a deep dive into donkey sanctuaries! Explore organizations offering full tummies, a sturdy roof, or furniture to make a home. Find out who needs what and how much of it. The kinds of helping on offer are limitless!

Noticing what jives

It won’t take long for you to get a sense of what gets your heart pumpin’ — where you feel a wish for justice or a natural inclination to just step up and help. Or, it may be a wish to create or cook or just show up. What feels right in this exploration of helping organizations? Follow that feelin’!

Assessing your resources

Once you have a sense of what makes you come alive, take stock. Are you a person whose greatest resource is time? Finances? Belongings you no longer need? Are you an artist, a digital communications pro, or a musician? Is administrative genius your thing? What do you have to give that you would love to share? Could that be something that gets added to the top of the “Things to do on Family Day” list?

Making a plan

Next step? Put your sense of direction and your understanding of your own capacity to help to work for you! When setting plans and goals for next steps, keep it simple. Sustainable. Maybe you wish to do a one-time Give — you just want to go big and make a one-time impact! Or, perhaps you’re more of a marathon giver and you’d like to build your giving practice into something that keeps on giving for a time.

One way to do this? Visit CanadaHelps to learn how to create a fundraiser. In fact, you can visit almost any charity website and explore their “Ways to Give” tab.

Spreading the word

At the top of the list of things to do on Family Day, we might put…well…family! Whether you are fondly connected to your actual relatives, or you’ve lovingly built your Found Family, let them know about your plans to make giving your focus. Share your excitement and your ideas. Invite them to get involved, too! Nothing builds community like serving and helping together.

Doing so much good

Then, get at it! Do your thing. Be Lovingkindness and generosity in this wide, wonderful country.

Tidying up

Part of all of that Goodness is being mindful of the spaces and places you’re in. If your particular expression of giving involves events, items, or actual stuff, be sure to respect the facilities and humans you’re interacting with. Giving items? Be sure they’re quality (That is, if you wouldn’t give it to someone you like a lot, maybe don’t give it at all? Folks in need don’t want our junk!). Using a community space for an event? Leave no trace. Better yet, leave it in better shape than when you arrived!

Celebrating the win

When it’s all said and done, gather your crew around and enjoy the moment! Revel in what it is like to do Good together.

Setting your sights on this time next year

And then start planning for this time next year! What would you change about your giving efforts? Are there things that went hummingly that you know you want to do again? Keep planning, and keep giving!

It’s Heart Month! Raise the pulse of your beloved charity with a Valentine they’ll remember!

Valentine, Gal-entine…love it or leave it, this month is all about heart

This is it! The month when you have every permission you ever needed to offer a “valentine” to the people, places, and causes you love. We get it. So much commercialism! Fakery. Pink-ness!

Buying in to chocolates, flowers, and bling may just not be your thing.

But love? You know you’re all about the love!

And Heart Month is a great time to turn fluff and bother into the gift that will keep your charity’s heart beating strong.

Heart Month

February is about more than just heart-shaped cards and sweets.

Heart Month is an opportunity to attend to our health, and the health of the ones we love. Particularly, heart health. If this is a cause close to you, visit the Heart & Stroke Foundation to learn more about how to get involved in your province!

A valentine for any Canadian charity you love

Moreover, charity of choice turns vehicle donation for any charity into heart work. You can donate your car, van, truck, SUV, or motorcycle to any registered Canadian charity. Really! ANY one of them.

So, who do you love? Is your heartbeat for vulnerable kids or people in need? If you or a loved one has experienced illness, your care may be focused on a diabetes, cancer, or heart disease charity. Social justice, global concerns, clean water, or food and housing security: Canada has a charity for that.

You might be all about toe beans and floppy ears: there are thousands of charities for you that need your TLC! Wildlife and the environment? Canada has a charity for that, too.

‘Need a little help making a decision? Visit CanadaHelps. You can also just pop over to our Charities page to see who is actively on our own receiving list!

Will you be our valentine?

Do you have an unused, or unwanted vehicle you’re ready to turn into a valentine for charity? This may be the easiest gift you give all season!

The process?

Simple (It takes less than 10 minutes to fill in the donation form).

Free (You’ll get a call from the towing agent pronto — they’ll set up free pick up timing that works for you).

Quick (Then, it’s just a matter of time until your charity receives the net proceeds and you have your tax receipt).

Are you a charity just waiting on a few valentines to come your way?

We can help! You are just a few steps away from getting set up with our vehicle donation program! We will take care of every detail in your donors’ car donation experience. CanadaHelps has you covered in getting tax receipts right into the hands of your donors, too. There is no cost to you for this service!

From our hearts to yours, donors and charities alike: Happy Valentine’s Day! May you be met by community, compassion, and connection through out the year ahead.

Donating cars for Canadian charities is a multi-benefit process! Charity, donor, local business, and environment are all winners when you donate your vehicle.

Donating cars serves donor, community, and caring causes

There are a number of questions that folx ask when considering donating cars:

How fast can you get here?

Is my vehicle acceptable?

How much is my tax receipt?

Well, first, our transport agents will get to you lickity-split! Many donors express surprise at how quickly and efficiently they receive their free tow. On the other hand, if you need some time, no problem! The agent will happily put things on pause until you are ready to proceed.

Second, yes! Recycle-ready vehicles make great donations! Some of our supporting agents do require that there be four tires in place. These don’t need to be in great shape — even spares will do just fine. The agents simply need to be able to roll things to the yard in a safe and cost effective manner. Of course, if there are missing parts, the scrap donation outcome may be reduced as agents determine value, in part, based on curb weight.

We either re-sell, or recycle, vehicles. Here’s more on that…

More about how your tax receipt is determined

1) If your vehicle is selected for our recycle process, the donation amount for a vehicle can be between $30.00 – $800.00. This is dependent on the area in which it is donated, and what the market will pay for the year/make/model. The vehicle will be picked up by our towing agent at no cost to you.

2) Your vehicle may be considered for sale at auction. Several factors go into qualifying a vehicle for auction. These include, but are not limited to, drivability, type of mechanical problems (if any), age, damage, visual appearance, and mileage.

Vehicles sold at auction are sold ‘as is’ and ‘unreserved’. They are sold to the highest bidder, as a full and final sale. Outcome at auction varies. As such, we cannot guarantee a specific sale result. That said, it is no unusual to see thousands of dollars sent to charities of choice when donating cars and auction sales align!

3) Our third option applies to vehicles that may not perform well at auction, but that are not ready for recycling. Our re-sale/recycle process will see our agent pick up your vehicle for free.

Once they have it on their yard they will assess it to determine if it should be re-sold or recycled. This will be based on the current market. If they see re-sale value in your vehicle, they will advertise it to their own buyer base, selling it as-is, to the highest bidder. They will send us the net proceeds from the re-sale price. If they determine that they will not find interested buyers, they will recycle your car.

Our experience tells us that we do not always see Blue/Black book value when we employ the re-sale process. That said, if you explore our social media posts you’ll see that we routinely see vehicles sell for thousands of dollars in donation returns for the donors’ charities!

The less visible benefits of donating cars

Donating cars benefits charities, to be sure. Every coin counts and your vehicle donation really piles up those coins! A tidy-sum tax receipt is always a bonus at tax time, too. But there are benefits the go beyond the bank, as well!

Environmental impact is one such bonus. Safe and clean vehicle removal declutters yards and neighbourhoods. Furthermore, proper disposal of fluids and parts ensures responsible Earth care.

Donate a Car Canada is Canadian through-and-through. We understand that building and sustaining business within your community is important. One of the ways we keep our own cost of business low is by partnering with your local auction yards, re-sale agents, and scrap yards. So, donating cars here keeps as much business local as is economically responsible.

Vehicle. Charity of choice. Community.

Not all Canadians are donating cars. If you need cash in hand, private sale may be the way to go. But if you have an unused, unwanted vehicle? Done with it and want to do good with it? Donating is a multi-goodness way to go!

10 Pontiac donations, 10 caring causes

As we wrap up our month-end accounting (our first one of 2026!), Pontiac donations are making their giving mark for Western Canadian charities.

It’s been a unique first month of the year for Pontiac donations. Typically we see makes and models spread across the country. From PEI to Vancouver Island, all kinds of makes and models roll in. What’s unique about the Vibes, Montanas, and Sunfires this month? They are all BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba donations!

Another unique outcome? Each donor selected a different charity of choice! Often we’ll see multiple donations for some of the country’s more well known national charities. Not this month.

Here’s how it all breaks down…

Check out these interesting stats…

Three Pontiac Vibes were donated this month — two from Alberta, and one from BC. Their receiving charities: Medicine Hat SPCA, the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and the Knowledge Network Corporation.

One G5 and two G6 donations rumbled in. The donors’ chosen charities: ALIES & the Back Porch, Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, and the Linden Benevolent Society for Seniors.

Up next, a triple run of Montana donations! Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Vancouver Island, Centre Flavie Laurent, and the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre will receive their respective gifts in the next few days.

Charities all set for a winter boost

There’s nothing to clear the winter blah’s like a zot of funds to keep doing the work you love! Any charity in Canada can receive a vehicle donation through Donate a Car Canada. These Pontiac donations add up to hundreds of precious donation dollars for their receiving charities.

Charities do not pay any fees to be part of our program. Between ourselves and CanadaHelps, all aspects of the vehicle donation process are managed on each charity’s behalf. This is important because managing this as an individual charity could be cost prohibitive and unwieldy. We’re here to take care of everything from paperwork to free tows so that your charity of choice can simply keep doing the compassionate things they do best!

From Pontiac to Plymouth, every car counts

Your unused and unwanted vehicle will make a big difference for the charity you love. Donating is simple and quick. First, fill in our online donation form (this takes just a few minutes). Then, wait for your phone to ring (it’s the transport agent calling to arrange your free pick up). Finally, watch your inbox. Your tax receipt will arrive via email just as soon as we have payment from the agent and have disbursed your gift to your chosen charity.

If you’d like to talk to a real person (we’re actual funny, capable, humans!), we’re just a call away: 1-877-250-4904 will get one of us on the phone. We love providing exceptional donor support and we welcome your call.

However you go about it, we are at-the-ready to work alongside you on behalf of the charity you care about!
