Look no further for ways to share this Giving Tuesday! Donate a Car Canada processes donations for any Canadian charity! Each one will offer ways that you can help. Just as you. Where you are. Today!

Many of us are not in a position to give financially. No problem! The smallest acts of kindness bring meaningful relief. Your innate Goodness? It matters! Share it in the way that you are best able. A written note, or a pot of soup. An offer of childcare, or pet sitting. A simple, authentic smile.

‘Have your feet under you and feeling some financial freedom? Canadian charities will put your dollars and cents to excellent work. Caring, skilled men, women, and children are manning the wheel at our charities. What they need more than anything? The finances to keep things in motion. Your financial offering can make such a difference.

On the other hand, some charities will accept gifts-in-kind — that lightly used couch, coat, or pair of shoes will help!

Get Intentional

Give where you feel the love! CanadaHelps is a fabulous resource in selecting charities to support.

The cause that has most-helped you or your loved ones may be just the place to start this Giving Tuesday. If vulnerable pets or our remarkable Canadian wildlife tug at your heartstrings, give them a paw (or talon…or fin) up!

In giving creatively, you might even think about the impact your gift has on more than one level. Giving your lightly used household items, or a vehicle, means practical help to the recipient. That kind of giving does more! It reduces waste and is helpful environmentally. It clears your own space (possibly aiding in your own wellbeing). The benefits touch into your life, the life (lives) of your recipient, and the broader world.

Your Giving Tuesday

We’d love to see you this Giving Tuesday! Pick your charity and do up our quick donation form (it takes less than 10 minutes to fill out). Your charity not on our list? No problem! Just let us know and we’ll direct your gift to the cause you love! We’ll have you set up with your free tow and on your way to a tax receipt in short order!

That free tow will be managed efficiently, and with care. Typically, donated vehicles are picked up within 1 – 3 business days. You’ll be called in advance to ensure timing that suits you well.

The gift on top of the gift in all of this? Just as there is no cost to you, there is no cost to your charity of choice. We are here to ensure this full process is managed on behalf of yourself and your charity so that you can all keep doing what you need to do!

A look back at a 2015 vehicle donation adventure!

When Addison Asuchak called in to Donate a Car Canada with an offer to donate his 2001 VW Jetta on behalf of KidSport Canada, we had no idea that we were about to be part of a generous adventure!

Addison is living a big and adventurous life! He travels wide, plays hard, and dreams so big. His generosity of spirit touches everything he does, and in an effort to support a charity that he cares about, he called us to get information on how to go about donating his faithful Jetta on behalf of KidSport Canada.

When a vehicle is donated through Donate a Car Canada (for ANY Canadian charity) we keep things simple. We re-sell, or recycle. Each vehicle is assessed on its own merit. So, we assumed Addison hoped to simply go through that process with his  drivable, good lookin’ VW. So, we provided him the details of our program and offered him  our donation options.

That’s when this KidSport donation took a turn

Addison, with a humorous catch in his voice, asked,

“So,  what if the car were in a slightly different condition than what I’ve  described? Like, what  if it had been hit a few times…with a sledge hammer?”

In a spontaneous effort to support KidSport Canada, Addison had thrown out a massive Facebook appeal. He told his vast network of university and personal connections that with the gift of a donation to the charity, anyone could come and take a swing at his beautiful Jetta – with a sledge hammer! Within a matter of hours he had a typically Canadian response: people were interested! Demolition +  generosity = the perfect January afternoon distraction!

Several hundred people showed up, donations in hand. Addison provided the sledgehammer and the car, and in no time at all $600.00 was raised for KidSport Canada!

Addison’s Volvo had a double impact on behalf of KidSport: it drew the attention and generosity of sledge hammer –wielding

donors at the university, and it garnered the monetary donation that comes with a vehicle recycled through our program here. Addison is a man with energy and courage. We know his generous effort on behalf of KidSport is one small part of his big life. We were thrilled to be a part of it!

Inspired to follow Addison’s lead?

You may not be in the company of dozens of sledge hammer-wielding buddies. But you can still make a tremendous impact with your own vehicle donation. Runnin’ or rusty, every vehicle counts. And every Canadian charity is at-the-ready to receive your gift.

Youth at risk are one of Canada’s most vulnerable populations and they need our ongoing care. Several of our charities are doing boots-on-the-ground work. Their staff are advocating for, feeding, and housing kids. They are friends of this sector of our human family.

Canadian youth at risk can find themselves in trouble on all sides. Their place in society is not a given. There can be heartache at home, at school, and in broader society. When donating your car, consider giving to a local charity that is working with these kids to keep them safe. Be part of helping them get healthy, find community, and pursue purpose.

Covenant House

Youth at risk are served from two Covenant House locations: Vancouver, BC, and Toronto, Ontario. The work of CH in both locations provides whole-person help. They seek to protect and safeguard our kids with love and respect. Helping teens find shelter and safety are key. Caring for mental and spiritual health are part of the package. 

RaY | Resource Assistance for Youth

Winnipeg’s hurting youth (largely an indigenous peoples’ population) are served by a locally based and operated outreach. Through years of endeavor, they have zero’d in on mission. They are a “proactive provider of prevention, intervention, outreach and support services.” How do they do this? In so many ways, including a thrift shop and a job training program.

Alberta-grown, with locations in Calgary and Edmonton, Streelight is one of YU’s high energy endeavors:

Streetlight is just one of YU’s many outreaches. Working on school campuses, building friendships, and providing job support all come in to the picture. They have an auto repair training program, too!
