Double the heartwork: Heart & Stroke Foundation and Humane Society

Passion for charitable causes, companioned by her love for her father, and for her ol’ pooch, Shilo, compel Meggie to make giving part of her everyday. She gently memorializes the ones she loves. One way she does this is by paying forward the care she and her loved ones have received in their own times of loss.

“The Humane Society is very special to us as they helped us when our border collie Shilo passed away about 8 years ago.”

The kindness and personalized care Meggie’s family received from the Calgary Humane Society moved them deeply. “We send a small monthly donation to them just because there are so many animals out there that need to be taken care of. If we could take them all we would!” Although she can’t bring every needy critter home with her, Meggie’s two vehicle donation in 2013 resulted in big gifts!  They added up to $827.50, affording the charity the opportunity to help so many.

Meggie’s generosity did not end there! She went on to submit a third vehicle for donation just this year!

“The Heart & Stroke foundation was a big part of our lives growing up as dad had Congestive Heart Failure and wasn’t supposed to make it past 35. He lived to be 87 because of all the research that was able to happen because of the donations to the Heart & Stroke foundation.”

Putting the “heart” in Heart and Stroke Foundation

After he passed, Meggie wanted to honor her dad and the organization that worked so hard to prolong his life. Donating her father’s Chrysler Intrepid on behalf of the charity was an emotional process for both Meggie and her daughter, “When I drove it out of the garage to get ready for pick up both my daughter and I had a good cry. That was a hard day.”

Meggie’s self sacrifice in letting the Intrepid go resulted in a gift of $378.00 to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in Alberta.

Life takes painful turns, from time to time. Meggie is an inspiration and a joyful reminder of the value in honoring the ones we love by investing in causes that reach toward need every day. The process is simple, quick, and free. There’s a free tow for you, of course. And the administration of your vehicle donation is managed entirely by us here at Donate a Car Canada, and by CanadaHelps. Your charity of choice will not pay a penny to receive your generous donation!

First, fill out our online vehicle donation form. This will take you just a few minutes. Have your VIN on hand to make the process go even more quickly. If you have any trouble with the form, just call: 1-877-250-4904. We’re happy to assist.

Then, wait for your call from the tow agent. Your free tow will typically happen within 3-5 business days, but you can always ask for more (or less) time when you and the agent connect.

Lastly, sit back and watch your inbox! Your tax receipt will be issued within a week or two of us receiving payment from the supporting agent. Wherever possible, your vehicle will be considered for re-sale. If it is ready to come off the road, the agent will recycle it for us. Either way, the net proceeds will be disbursed to the cause you care about, and you will receive a tax receipt for your donation.

Charlottetown Kia Sorento LX for women & kids

When R.P’s Sorento was over 200,000 kms in and ready to come off the road, he knew he wanted to extend its legacy. A quick call in to explain the condition of the Kia and where it had stranded him and R.P was on his way to a free tow.

He knew he wanted to support  women and children recovering from intimate partner violence.

Alice House, a Maritime charity that provides safe second-stage housing and supportive counselling for women and children in Nova Scotia, was the perfect fit.

Free tow for R.P., and cash in hand for the charity!

’06 Spectra in Ontario goes to the dogs

M.R.S. wrote, “…it won’t start because it hasn’t been used in almost a year…”. Donating her Kia for the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind was a win for the driveway, and for the charity!

When a Kia still has miles left to give, re-selling is the way to go! This is accomplished one of two ways: auctioning, or private re-sale from an agent lot.

When Mr. S found himself facing ailing health and the loss of his driver’s license, he wanted to make something good of it. He and his wife donated their Amanti on behalf of the YMCA in Cobourg!

The car will be up for bids this month. The highest bidder will get the Kia; the YMCA will receive the net proceeds from the sale. And Mr. S? He has extended both the life of the car and the legacy of his own family through giving!

Single mum gifts Sedona

The hustle and worry of raising three kids on her own…while going to school…didn’t stop F.O.N. from donating. “I don’t want to sell! I want to donate!” Despite being the victim of vandalism with student loans to pay, she gave! The Heart & Stroke Foundation benefited with a hearty (You see what we did there?) gift of $650.00.

Kia donors reflect the diversity and goodness of Canadians coast to coast. We count it 100% privilege to serve their charities alongside them!

Oh, the difference one little Elantra can make!

Who is on the block for Elantra donations as I write this up? Heart and Stroke Foundation, Ontario SPCA and Humane Society, Ronald McDonald House Charities South Central Ontario, Team Cat Rescue, and Valour Place Society!

Five Hyundai donors, five charities-of-choice. This is the beautiful giving impact of Canadian donors! And it is the heartwork of Donate a Car Canada.

One of the everyday joys of working at Donate a Car Canada is the scope of the charities we serve. There is a charity for every cause you can imagine! ‘Love donkeys? There’s a charity for that. Are you all about hand bells? We ring it in for that cause, too. Community, cancer, kids, and critters: your car donation can go to any charity you love!

How much can your Hyundai earn for your cause?

Every donated car (Elantra, or otherwise) is assessed, as-is, case-by-case. We and our charities have been at this for over two decadea. We roll with current markets: when scrap metal is valued strongly, it’s a big win for charity!

Have you noticed the strength of the re-sale market for cars right now? It is a Goodness for your charity. When we recycle a car, truck, van, or SUV the donation outcome varies. This is most strongly affected by your location. In many provinces we are currently seeing donation outcomes for around $300.00 – $500.00 on scrap cars! This is big shift from the metal crash a few years ago when the same cars were worth less than $100.00. We are loving 2022!

However, not all donated vehicles are ready for recycling. Whenever we can, we assign your donated car to re-sale. This happens through auction and re-sale agents across the country. They put donated vehicles up for sale as-is, to the highest bidder. ‘Highest bid takes the car. Your charity? They receive the net proceeds.

One of this week’s five Elantra donors will have a $5,000.00+ donation issued in their name!

How easy is this process?

Donating your vehicle is really just so easy! Fill in our online form (you’re one click away). Wait for a call from your supporting tow agent (the tow is always free!). Watch for your tax receipt.

We take care of every detail along the way. You will receive emails outlining important information so that you have a robust paper trail for your donation, should you wish it.

You can choose any charity in Canada! Your charity of choice will never be charged any fees. There is no extra work for them. Their role in all of this? To keep doing the caring, building, researching, nurturing work that is their mission. And then to accept the monetary-gift outcome of your donated car, of course. We are here to serve them by serving you!

Minivan donation helps Transforming Faces

Dusty’s donors’ charity of choice was Transforming Faces. TF champions kiddos around the world. They believe, “Children born with cleft lip and palate deserve to be supported every step of the way. Comprehensive cleft care makes that possible.”

So many more minivans, so many more charities!

Dusty and his legacy of giving is storied. We share in the gratitude and affection donors have for their long-serving cars, trucks, and vans. These minivans are much more than metal and rubber. They can feel like members of the family!

Many times our donors keep their donation stories close. We aren’t privvy to the deeply personal reasons a charity has been chosen. The reasons for donating are as varied as the donors themselves! So are the charities.

February symbolizes so many things on the calendar, not just Valentine’s Day. In North America it’s also known as the worst month of the year for mental health because of the weather we experience and the affect it has on us. Heart and Stroke associations use this month to focus on the well-being of our physical hearts and our cardiovascular health.

Your Health in Balance

It’s interesting that those three things can intertwine and impact us completely: our mind, our emotions and our health. It’s actually a good reminder that to live fully we need to look after all aspects of our lives. With the busyness we are accustomed to, comes the tendency to think imbalance is okay. Truth be told, if one area is out of whack it is inevitable that it will affect all other areas.

At Donate A Car Canada, our quest is to support you, our donors, in facilitate your giving process through the sale or recycling of your vehicle. With those funds, causes like The Distress Centre, Canadian Mental Health Association, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, women’s shelters and dozens of other charities are helped every month to ensure we and those we love have the best possible chance of leading our best lives – happy, healthy and whole.

Heart and soul

We never, ever underestimate the value of every dollar raised, and as each year passes we are so grateful for our part in spreading the love across our Nation, to help those who may not otherwise be able to help themselves.

As much as we know love isn’t attached to a dollar figure, we do know that dollars make a difference.  You may not have a ton of money in the bank, but maybe your car can add value to others by donating it.

What is love then? Some say it is the act of giving when you know the other person cannot give in return.

In what’s left of this month, let’s try to demonstrate ‘love’ more fully, reduce stress levels and increase the serotonin we all need by:

• Extending patience
• Showing kindness
• Thinking the best of others (and maybe even ourselves!)
• Give credit to others, recognize accomplishments
• Let go of petty differences
• Forgive
• Stay hopeful
• Never give up
