ALS Society charities receive car, truck, van, SUV, and motorcycle donations. From Halifax to Victoria, Canadians are impacted by ALS. Not surprisingly, their response is to give…big!

The ALS Society and awareness

We are so excited to be actively working on many vehicle donations that will go directly toward donors’ ALS-focused charities-of-choice!

Regional chapters of the society are set to receive recycle-ready Mazda, Toyota, Ford, and Pontiac donations of anywhere from $200.00 – $525.00. We have some accounting pending on an auctioned Dodge mini van that will bring over $1000.00 for the BC chapter. And a trusty 2007 Honda Accord is up on the block for sale later this month. Ontario will be the beneficiary of that gift!

Follow the charity’s socials. Get involved. Stay informed. And discover how you can advance life-saving research!

What is ALS?

“ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a disease that gradually paralyzes the body. It leaves people without the ability to move, talk, swallow and eventually breathe. 80% of people die within two to five years of being diagnosed with ALS. There is no effective treatment or cure of the disease. However, ALS research has advanced to a point that effective treatments are now a matter of ‘when’ not ‘if.’ Research discovery is limited only by the amount of funding available to pursue it.”

More funding contributes to ongoing research. Eventually, improved treatments and a cure are the outcome. This is the goal of giving to this cause.

ALS Societies fund raise on a regional basis. This provides services and supports to people/families living with ALS. Furthermore, it contributes to the funding of the ALS Canada Research Program. The CRP funds research grants and fosters collaboration among Canadian researchers. ALS Societies advocate federally, provincially and locally on behalf of people and families living with ALS. This ensures better government support and access within the healthcare system.

Car donations rev their engines for charity

When you donate a car, van, SUV, or truck, you can gift any Canadian charity! There are thousands of causes, and so many charities helping in specialized ways. Donors respond by giving in unique ways, too!

Be sure to visit your regional ALS charity to learn how you can best support their work.

“Whatever your reason for caring about ALS as a cause, you are joining a passionate group…” People living with ALS today benefit from services and support thanks to your involvement. Research investment today means effective treatments tomorrow.

How do I donate my car? Is it free?

The how-to: So easy! Complete a donation form. This will take a few minutes. Await a call from your assigned agent and have the vehicle picked up. Then, just watch for the tax receipt to arrive in your inbox.

Happily, there are no fees charged to your charity of choice. Ever! CanadaHelps (our partnering service) efficiently takes care of getting your tax receipt to you.

Your car, truck, van, or SUV will be either recycled or re-sold for the charity. The tow is free — every time!

Once the pick-up and processing are complete, we receive payment for your car. We then forward the net proceeds to your charity. Your receipt will be out to you within just a couple of weeks of final accounting getting wrapped up.

Questions during the process? No problem! We’re easy to get on the phone and by email. Moreover, you will have information at your fingertips at all times. This is all about your donation, your choice!

Ready to give your own four wheels to charity in this way? We are ready to help!

Dodge Caravan donors are some of our most prolific car donors in Canada!

You won’t believe how many happy minivan donors we’ve served in just one month!

Dusty the Dodge Caravan is grand indeed

We love processing minivans for your charity’s vehicle donation program! Here’s what one Grand Caravan donor had to say,

“Our 1997 Dodge Caravan was just picked up by Steven, a tow truck operator
working for the Armstrong agent. The removal went very smoothly.

This whole process has gone smoothly from the beginning. All of you at
Donate A Car Canada have been friendly and a pleasure to deal with. The way
your email instructions are designed are clear and easy to follow.

Thank you so very much for your attention to detail and email follow ups.
We name all the vehicles we’ve ever owned and “Dusty” has carried loads of
Girl Guides on camping trips over the years. It’s been a bit emotional
today saying goodbye to this old safe transporter friend. Thank you for
making it easier for me.” ~ D & K. K. ~

Minivan donation helps Transforming Faces

Dusty’s donors’ charity of choice was Transforming Faces. TF champions kiddos around the world. They believe, “Children born with cleft lip and palate deserve to be supported every step of the way. Comprehensive cleft care makes that possible.”

So many more minivans, so many more charities!

Dusty and his legacy of giving is storied. We share in the gratitude and affection donors have for their long-serving cars, trucks, and vans. These minivans are much more than metal and rubber. They can feel like members of the family!

Many times our donors keep their donation stories close. We aren’t privvy to the deeply personal reasons a charity has been chosen. The reasons for donating are as varied as the donors themselves! So are the charities.

Check out our Dodge Caravan donations from just this past month. Donors gave their 1992’s and their 2002’s…and many more! Below is a quick list to give you an idea of how your charity of choice might be helped. You can find detailed charity mission statements and locations on our charities page if you need a hand making your own choice.

Alberta Cancer Foundation: $120.00 (This one was a remote area Alberta pick-up.)

Canadian Cancer Society received three gifts for $250.00, $3791.25, and $500.00.

Canadian Mental Health Association Windsor-Essex County: $500.00

Covenant House Vancouver was gifted two Caravans totaling $300.00 and $3140.25!

Diabetes Canada received a scrap-ready donation in BC.

Health Sciences Centre Foundation: $250.00

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada: $300.00

Make-A-Wish Canada: $450.00

People Ensuring Animal Care Exists (P.E.A.C.E) received a scrap-ready donation.

Peterborough Humane Society: $500.00

Pregnancy Care Centre: $310.00

SPCA Newfoundland & Labrador – St. John’s Branch: $100.00

Company minivans help 5 more charities

Canadian companies are generous in their fleet donations. Our Dodge Caravan donors aided these five charities with donations adding up to over $2000.00 on scrap-ready company vans!

Heart and Stroke Foundation

Kidney Cancer Canada

Kids with Cancer Society of Northern Alberta

Rotary Flames House (Alberta Children’s Hospital)

Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation

Ready to roll with your own donation?

You’ll see from our social media and blog posts that your charity may have a donation program supported by us here at Donate a Car Canada. Donate with very high expectations! You will experience excellent donor care. We will seek the highest dollar return for the charity of choice. Furthermore, your charity does not pay for this service in any way.

We’re just a click or a call (1-877-250-4904) away!

Learn about their charity of choice and more…

November 2021 update

Make that 18 vehicles! ‘Company adds one more fleet HHR to all of the Goodness you’ll read about below:

Company giving helps more than charity

In the summer of 2021 we celebrated an anniversary of sorts! We first encountered Heritage Office Furnishings six years ago. Almost to the day of this original post. From the start they set themselves apart as a special donor. Their first gift? Three (3) vehicles!

Ever so quietly, HOF has continued this practice of giving. Just this month they donated yet another Chevy. Without fanfare they give Dodge after Chevy…after Dodge. This kind of Goodness is about more than just money. In so giving,

Heritage Office Furnishings engages in good practices in managing their fleet.

Earth care is part of the gift. Our agents endeavor to employ green practices in vehicle recycling and re-selling.

Car, truck, and van donation supports other local business. Our agents, coast-to-coast, serve in your backyards.

Canadian charities are supported. Again and again! Every donated unit is looked at individually. The donor receives a free tow. The charity receives the net proceeds from the re-sale or recycling of the car, truck, van, or motorcycle.

Commitment to their cause(s)

Heritage Office Furnishings has championed one charity many times. In fact, when we first joined efforts, this charity was not even on our receiving list!

The Regional Animal Protection Society (RAPS) can be your charity of choice thanks to this company!

RAPS

The Regional Animal Protection Society is all about critter care.

“Our dream is to provide a community where no stray cats roam the streets. All animals should be loved and respected, and have lifelong homes.”

The RAPS Cat Sanctuary was built in order to rescue and protect homeless and abandoned cats and kittens. It is now one of the largest cat sanctuaries in North America. The Sanctuary provides a safe permanent home to hundreds of feral, abandoned, and surrendered cats. It is maintained by about 200 volunteers who create a loving, clean, comfortable, and safe home for the cats.

All of the cats are treated at the RAPS Animal Hospital. This is one of the largest not-for-profit animal hospitals in Canada. RAPS believes that every life is a valuable life.

VOKRA

This June (with donation number 17, if you can imagine!), HOF selected a different charity. The happy recipient-to-be?

VOKRA – the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association. Their mission? To end kitten homelessness one trap at a time.

“At VOKRA our mission is to end cat overpopulation and homelessness. One of the ways we’re helping accomplish this is through to Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), the process of trapping feral cats, spaying or neutering them, and then returning them to the location they came from. Trapping these cats and kittens is the first step towards finding them their furever homes.“

Your company can help

Home Office Furnishings is a rare company indeed! Working alongside them since 2015 is a privilege.

Does your company have an unused or unwanted car, truck, or van to donate? The giving process is simple! Within 10 – 15 minutes, we will gather your information. Part of that process will be your charity choice. You can choose from our list of almost 1,000 Canadian charities!

Your chosen charity will receive the net proceeds from the re-sale or recycling of your company vehicle. They will then send your business a tax receipt for that amount.

Inspired by HOF and ready to jump right in? ‘Already have an cause in mind? Your charity is waiting, and we’re here to help!

My son loves his Dodge Avenger. And my son hates his Dodge Avenger. He practically lives in that trusty ’08, and the car has served him diligently for years.

Drowned Dodge rallies

In fact, the Avenger has had the kid’s back through seasons and jobs and friendships and more jobs. Our three boys purchased the car together when their first car (a plum-purple Ford Escort, long since donated here at Donate a Car) fell apart piece by piece. That one was held together with bungee chords and teenage hope by its end. The Dodge took the Escort’s place, and our youngest eventually took sole ownership.

That car got him safely to 4:30 am lifeguarding shifts at pools all over town. It’s seen him through promotions, life lessons, and meeting big life goals.

And then, one wee-hours-of-the-morning fog-laden drive, the boy turned that poor ol’ car straight into a puddle. A deep puddle. A spray water completely over the roof puddle on a freezing day. The Avenger stalwartly drove him to work…and then sat in the subzero temps for a 10 hour shift…and then settled into an unresponsive car coma.

We thought the Dodge was done. How could it come back from such a soaking? Surely the electronics would be fried? But the car wasn’t done at all. The Kid (known for his keen ability to save money, and his vigorous determination not to spend any) wasn’t about to give up on it. The winter months had our son tapping into depths of faith he didn’t know he had, “Please, please, please start this time…” and off the Avenger would roar. Or not. Depending on its mood. The car was feeling the effects of a good puddle drubbing (or so we thought), and it was hurting.

Drown Dodge gets its revenge

It didn’t take long for The Kid to invest in an AMA membership with a hearty tow package. That got him through last year’s endless winter, and by summertime the car seemed to have sorted itself out. No more refusals to start in awkward places at awkward times. We all thought maybe we’d overestimated the flooding and that the car was going to be fine after all.

And then the temperature dropped below zero. Early in October (I know! How we suffer.). And the first text came, “So, Mom? The Dodge won’t start. I’m calling AMA.” That was almost a month ago. And that cranky Avenger has really been digging in its wheels. It strands The Kid all over town (he’s now doing a food delivery job part-time, on top of his supervisory gig at the pools), in all kinds of awkward places.

It spent a week at Canadian Tire. They eventually threw up their arms in despair saying, “We can’t find anything wrong with this car. No charge beyond the initial inspection because we can’t fix it.”

It spent a few nights at the Dodge dealer. They should have thrown their arms up in despair, but instead they replaced the battery and told The Kid it was fixed.

And he thought it was. It started up perfectly. For a week. And then it started fussin’ again…leaving him stranded during yet another food delivery shift.

What the Avenger has been trying to tell us all along

Back to Dodge the car was towed. My son, with now-permanent wrinkles of annoyance etched into his 20-year-old brow, was being challenged by all of the rest of us to just let the poor thing go already.

And then the dealership called. They think they’ve found the totally-not-flood-or-battery-related problem (some of you are ahead of us on this; we were completely clueless)…

Dodge life interrupted

‘Ever heard of a “starter interrupter”? Yeah, we hadn’t either. This little gadget is used by dealerships/lenders to ensure they have some control over the vehicles they’re financing. Not making your payment on time? No problem! Your friendly neighborhood dealership can click a button and ensure you don’t go anywhere in their car until you send them their money. No money, no starter.

Our sons purchased the Avenger second-hand for cash, but whomever owned this faithful white wonder before they did seems to have been in a long-term relationship with the bank. And they failed to mention that they were connected at the hip.

So, when my son drove through a puddle it sent the interrupter into a kafuffle. Its likely been trying to sort itself out ever since — happily disrupting the starter whenever the mood strikes. Dodge is disabling the device today and The Kid should have his car back by this afternoon.

Is your car interrupting your commute and your carefully plotted path to reaching your goals? ‘Ready to turn it in and get something a little more reliable? Choose the charity you love, and put that non-starter car to rest by donating through our program.

The Dodge Ram was a member of the family. A trip to the local scrap yard just wasn’t an option when it came time to having the truck taken off the road. Yacht rails on the truck were our first clue that the donated ‘97 Dodge had stories to tell!

She had pealing roof-top paint (the result of bathing in the Florida sun) and a hefty number on the odometer! These reminders told of long miles travelled. Crossing borders and safely carrying her cargo, the Dodge Ram gave our donating family many happy memories.

A trusty Dodge Ram as a legacy

When our cars are ready for their last trek, a drop-off at the city metal parts yard won’t always do. We want to see our trusty vehicle continue to serve someone. It may have become too costly or too cumbersome a thing for our own circumstance. Yet, we can’t bear to see it just get carted off without a little added respect.

When it came time to decide how to make saying goodbye just a little easier, our donor family submitted their adventuring ‘97 truck on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society. Free towing and speedy service were needed as time was a factor. Both were easily managed by our supporting Island agent! The truck was taken into the care of a recycler who loves to tinker and repair.

On the other hand, for some of us, a quick trip to the junkyard is all we’re looking for. The thought of the scrapper being the last stop may not seem a fitting end for our faithful old vehicle. With hundreds of charities to choose from, you can feel sure of the ongoing and helpful impact of your donation-ready car or truck.

The donation process is simple and quick! In less than 10 minutes you can have your vehicle information to us. From there, we set up your free tow! Your charity will never be charged a penny for this service, and the tax receipt will be to you shortly after we receive payment.

Thank you for considering donating your unused or unwanted car to the charity you love!
