Go wild for Canadian charities

When you donate a vehicle for wildlife you help protect iconic animals in Canada. Our conservation charities need your donations today!

I have the happy luck to live in a part of Canada where I see wildlife every day. A moose calf (with mama never too far away), female deer, squirrels, and countless birds. Golden eagles and chickadees are always nearby, and I’m keeping a close eye out for the blue birds and swallows that are sure to be arriving soon. Edit: the swallows arrived this morning!

Caring for the creeks, forests, and river valleys that are home to all of these animals is so important. Thankfully, there are many organizations that make it their daily effort to tend critters, land, and water alike. Visit our Charities Page and type in, “wildlife.” Voila! So many organizations doing so much good!

Donate a vehicle for wildlife conservation

Whether you’re in a major centre like Toronto or Vancouver, or caring for our coasts out East, your charity welcomes your car donation. Truck, van, SUV, car, or motorcycle — every vehicle makes a difference. And in every province, too!

You might already be a fan of Vic the Vulture. He flapped his way into our hearts awhile back, thanks to donors like you and their conservation charity of choice.

Whatever inspires you to give to Canadian wildlife conservation, we are here to make the process as easy as 1-2-3:

Fill in our online form. It will take less than 10 minutes and can be done by clicking the big red button below. If you’d rather talk to a funny human, just call in during business hours to 1-877-250-4904!

Wait for your phone to ring. Our towing agent will call you to arrange your free tow.

Watch that inbox for your tax receipt!

Your caring helps the conserving

Every critter, every stream, every caring work can benefit from your simple generosity. Thank you for considering this kind of practical compassion!

You are also invited to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. There you will be able to keep up-to-date on posts that showcase amazing donors and charities in every province in Canada!

Can a season of minimalism offer peace?

Minimalism means different things to different folks. For most of us? It is an idea that takes time to percolate. Stuff and polish and over-fed bellies are a way of life. And, if you are like me, there comes a point where you feel excess…uncomfortably.

Indulgence and beauty and sweet things? They are some of life’s joys! But too much of a good thing can sour it.

I’m curious about the idea of simply, simply simplifying. Without obsessing or becoming austere, what would it be like to get by with less? In a lifelong quest for a quiet heart and a quiet mind, could it be that less stuff leads to less stress?

Splurgin’ and purgin’

The Christmas season is too-many-clowns-in-the-car crazy, right? It’s a sparkling sworl of nostalgia and something that feels like true holiday spirit. A funky mix of connecting with loved ones and loneliness. It’s a blend of spending and indulgence, scouring and scrubbing out.

A construction contractor I talked to last week said, “This is the busiest time of the year for us!”

I wondered why-on-earth? Who has time for home renos in December?

“It’s all about the company that’s coming for dinner! The husband has promised his wife the basement will be done before Christmas…and they end up calling us!”

If that isn’t a nudge toward, “There has to be a better way?”, I dunno what is!

Easing in to a simpler way

I like to keep life really cozy. Going full-out with minimalism won’t work for me. I love clay pots and candles and big blankets. Pictures on the wall and stacks of books feel like Home.

But there is something about not adding more. Now, at Christmastime, there is something about not adding to the stacks of stuff in my loved ones’ lives, too.

In November, I spent weeks fostering a wondering: what is my wish for my loves this year? I would notice when a little wave of guilt would swamp me. You might know that feeling? The one that punches you in the gut and demands that you get the right gift for every person you love? Historically, I would have had it all wrapped up by the end of October. So many gifts. Many, many dollars. And a lot of heart in it all. But something about it was just so intense.

I listened to the guilt, curious about what that was really all about.

I listened to the wish, too.

And I opted to follow the wish. In a time of global wobble and close-by vulnerability, my wish for the ones I care for is comfort, silliness, and connection. I can’t buy those things. They are concepts. Experiences. So I’ll get creative about how to offer the wish without adding to the pile under the tree.

Giving stuff away as a path to minimalism

An extension of that wish is giving stuff away. Clearing my full shelves and closets as I come across folks who need my things more than I do.

Can you relate to this gentle step toward living with less? It’s one of the ways Donate a Car Canada serves givers daily. We help when the thing you want to clear out is the size of a truck…literally! In this way, our small — and big — acts of giving become even bigger acts of conservation and community care.

Add to this the simplicity of this kind of donation. Giving simply becomes a joyful experience. Matchless!

So, here’s to you on your path to a simpler way. As you wonder about Christmas giving that is more intentional and less material. Or, as you give by letting go of some of the things already crowding your world. We wish you peace and curiosity in it all!

Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter! There you will get an overall feel for how we care for each other and our charities. This is a caring community, here to serve you.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada asks us to take on small acts of conservation during Canadian Environment Week. From bats to butterflies, you can be part of caring for our beautiful country!

A bit about the NCC

Vision: The Nature Conservancy of Canada envisions a world in which Canadians conserve nature in all its diversity. They safeguard the lands and waters that sustain life.

Mission: The NCC leads and inspires everyone to join them in creating a legacy for future generations. How? By conserving important natural areas and biological diversity across all regions of Canada.

Their continuous commitment: to promote healthy people, healthy communities, and a healthy planet for everyone.

Your role in the Nature Conservancy of Canada

Join the NCC in some playfully-solemn ways of caring for our wild country! Visit their Face Book page for regular inspirations and reminders: you and I are part of tending our earth.

Participate in their “Be Batty!” challenge.

Are bats a hard “Nope!” for you? Consider a small act of conservation by turning your attention to bees and butterflies instead.

Species saving super heros

The Nature Conservancy of Canada is celebrating life! Honoring Canadian Environment Week, Dan Kraus writes (Mr. Kraus has a significant body of work — do click on the link and learn from him!),

“We can save species from extinction. This is not a rallying cry. There is clear evidence that past generations have pulled wild species back from the edge of extinction.

I can see this evidence around me. I now witness wildlife that just a generation ago did not exist where I live. It’s the trumpeter swans that I see in a local wetland, the wood ducks that search our swamp for a large tree with a hole to nest in each spring, and even the wild turkeys that I regularly see outside my window. The promise of wildlife recovery lives across Canada in the swift foxes now found in the Prairies, humpbacked whales along the Atlantic coast, and the small white lady’s-slipper in the tallgrass prairies…”

You can be that hero

Dan Kraus goes on to write, “Each of the species that we have saved has an extraordinary recovery story. Some required ambitious reintroduction and captive breeding programs. For others, we needed new laws and policies. Often their stories unfolded over decades and benefitted from transformations in our culture and perceptions of wildlife. But they all had this in common: Behind every wildlife recovery story, there were people that cared enough to take action. Maybe people like you.

Canada’s Environment Week was founded to celebrate Canada’s environmental accomplishments and encourage Canadians to contribute to conserving and protecting their environment. It’s important that we understand and celebrate these Canadian stories about wildlife recovery. This is not to dilute or distract us from the biodiversity crises, but to direct us toward a different future. These stories are just a beginning — the first chapters as we slowly change course toward a more sustainable path.

For me, wildlife recovery is powerful evidence of hope. It should inspire us. But we need more of these stories, and we need to build on their success. Wildlife recovery represents the best in people. It counters the notion that we are destroyers of nature and shows we can be stewards that make the natural world richer for ourselves and those who will follow.”

Your act helps NCC’s work

Donating your vehicle on behalf of the Nature Conservancy of Canada is one big act of conservation! Donate a Car Canada is served by many recycling agents across Canada. Many of our towing agents and scrap yards pride themselves on caring for the earth. They do this by tending their own businesses well.

Safely disposing of fluids and metals is part of that process. Reusing and re-selling are other means of stewarding responsibly.

You can donate a car, truck, motorcycle, or boat for this cause! When you donate your vehicle (running, or ready to come off the road for good) on behalf of the NCC we will,

get you sorted with a free tow (the donation process is simply and friendly!). This usually takes less than 15 minutes to set up. Your free tow will likely occur within 3 – 5 business days.

send the net proceeds from the re-sale/recycle of your vehicle to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. There are no costs to the NCC for this service.

follow-up to ensure you receive your tax receipt from the charity.

Ready to make a difference?

Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area

Nature and wildlife lovers, this conservation area is for you! Wild and woolly trails, lovely views, and well-protected critters. There is something for every outdoors person here!

Check out the conservation’s website! They have informative and engaging blog posts. View their photo galleries for a thumb-nail glimpse at the beauty that awaits.

Looking for more? Here’s a sneak peek at their hiking trails:

Area Mission

Ann and Sandy Cross have a mission in establishing the conservation area:

To foster conservation of habitat for native species of wildlife. We achieve this mission by providing space for wildlife, offering conservation education programs and supporting community conservation initiatives.

Your gift to the ASCCA helps continue to protect native habitat for the many wildlife that call the area home. It will also ensure that they can continue to provide engaging education programs. This matters to them! They especially hope to connect with young people. Their role is to raise awareness of conservation opportunities to inspire people of all ages to work towards a beautiful future.

Donate a car for conservation

One of the many things we love about car donation is that it is an act of conservation. Many of the cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs donated here are scrap cars. What a beautiful way to extend the legacy of the wheels you love! Get them off the road; help the cause you care about!

If this charity lines up with you and your loved ones’ care and concern, reach out today! We’re ready to help.
