Human kindness, human rights?

We’ll just say it: things are feeling a bit bonkers right now. We’re feeling. So many feelings! Some of us are yelling about our feelings. Others of us are tensing our jaws and staying so very quiet. It can be tricky to discern if we should be shouting more loudly, or staying more quiet. I mean, we have rights…right?

We’re not going to weigh-in on those rights. But in a week when we were reminded that Kindness Day is a thing we all need, we stand by one basic privilege: human kindness. To that end, we’d like to introduce you to some of the Canadians that are doing their utmost to serve the world’s most vulnerable people. These are folks whose daily mission it is to extend compassionate equality, inclusion, and basic dignity.

Who do you love?

Donate a Car Canada is a family-run business operating out of Alberta. We’re a tight team of WFH humans. The captain of our little ship has made it her practice to offer employment with integrity, fairness, and inclusion. This means we’re a diverse bunch. Each of us have passions and beliefs; each of us work and serve with our own understanding of the human condition. The human condition in all of its complexities.

And every person on our team is here to serve Canadian charities without bias and with abiding compassion.

We do this understanding that Canadian donors give with their heart and soul. They donate based on their experiences. We feel so lucky to represent (with excellence and care) the broadest spectrum of those diverse beliefs, concerns, and causes possible.

When you think of your donation dollars, where does your heart turn? What is your unique expression of human kindness during strangely disrupted times? We are here to serve your cause!

Your caring counts

Social justice works make it their daily practice to extend basic human kindness. They often do this with a reach that you or I could never employ on our own. And they need us to extend that very reach.

Here is a short list of some of the charities you can choose when donating an unused or unwanted vehicle through Donate a Car Canada. We’ve randomly linked a few, but do search each of their websites. Learn how you can serve, support, and grow the charity you love!

A Better World Canada
ADRA Canada
Amnesty International Canada
ANIDA
Because I Am A Girl
Bridges of Hope
Buddies in Bad Times Theatre
Bullying Canada
Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN)
First Nations Child & Family Caring Society of Canada
Girls Inc. of Durham
G.R.I.S. – Montreal
Guatemala Stove Project
International Development & Relief Foundation (IDRF)
International Justice Mission Canada
JaneFinch ReachingUp
Medical Mercy Canada Society
Opportunity International Canada
Our Place Society
Oxfam Canada
Plan International Canada
The Hunger Project Canada
Save the Children Canada
Social Justice Connection
The 519

Diverse, practical, compassionate

From international justice work to local inclusion projects — you can give to the heart work that means the most to you. Human kindness comes in so many shapes, sizes, policies, and procedures!

Even while we feel the ground shifting beneath us, can we agree to offer the steady hand of respect and support where we are vulnerable? Because we are all vulnerable in one way or another. We need each other to be a non-anxious presence in an anxious world.

We’re here to serve you and your heart cause with excellence, efficiency, and impartiality. Reach out if you’re ready to donate your unused/unwanted car, truck, SUV, van, or motorcycle. The tow is always free, your charity of choice won’t pay a penny, and you’ll receive a tax receipt for the net proceeds of the processing of your vehicle!

What strange times for our kids to be growing up in! Children’s charities creatively and courageously support little ones across Canada. Donate a Car Canada serves these charities by processing your vehicles for donation.

Stretching, adapting…

Every household with minor children is adapting in big ways right now.

School is happening in the kitchen! How’s it going, Moms? ‘Feeling pretty good about grade 6 Math?

The kids are home. Like, they’re home all the time. Alllllll the time. No sports, no music lessons outside the home, selective playdates.

So much online everything. Maybe a little parental guilt about the amount of screen time that’s happening, too.

Teachers and doctors and coaches are stretched the limits of creative Zoom classroom-ing.

It’s a lot. The most resourceful and creative parents I know are feelin’ the pressure.

…and just managing

In the last few weeks I’ve heard the phrase, “We’re just managing.” A lot. There’s not much sparkle or curiosity. Folks are really tired of being flexible and rolling with it all. “I’m lucky because my kids get along well, but do we ever need to get away from each other!”

We’ve settled in for this long and wildly unpredictable ride. We’re doing all we can to maintain normalcy and learning and play. And some of our fellows are struggling under burdens that go beyond boredom and sibling squabbles.

Children’s charities are here to help

Are you a family (or loved-one to a family) that has children facing into unique disruptions during the pandemic? Mental and physical illness are exacting parental challenges at the most secure of times. If you, or your dear ones, are parenting children with complex needs, these are difficult times, indeed.

Our children’s charities list has been growing for years. My quick count shows that we have 174 actively receiving gifts through Donate a Car Canada right now!

Visit our charities page to discover a cause that resonates with you. You’ll find education-based works. There are so many organizations reaching toward sick kids. Focusing on food and housing insecurity, charities are meeting felt needs. There are even children’s charities dedicated to giving children access to sports.

When you donate a car

Choosing a kid’s charity as your vehicle donation recipient means cash in hand for that cause. We’ll do all of the work of pick-up and processing for your donated car, truck, van, motorcycle, etc. We’ll get paid for the vehicle, and then send the net proceeds on to your charity of choice. Tax time will be made a little gentler when you’re reminded of the gift you extended to kids in un-gentle times.

Help making a quick-pick

Kids Help Phone Children’s Treatment Network Because I am a Girl Bullying Canada Children’s Bridge Foundation

Your local foodbank/children’s hospital (see our charities page)

Find out more about how all of this works on our FAQ page. Or, give us a call at 1-877-250-4904!

Print ads, radio spots, and signage were on offer! Bullying Canada has widely encouraged their cross-country donors to gift their vehicles. Each one supports the work of advocating for vulnerable kids. In the past few months they have been on the receiving end of many recycle-ready vehicle donations. They have even seen vehicles that brought over $1000.00 in single donations!

A Personal Experience

Rob Frenette, Bullying Canadas Co-Executive Director and Co-Founder, relates personally to being bullied. You can relate, too, right? You, me. We were bullied. Some of us, even into adulthood, have faced bullying in our places of work, where we shop, through media. We remember what it was to be a vulnerable child. Sometimes we were facing down (or fleeing from) the kids that wanted to break us down and beat us up.

There are some scary numbers indicating the continued problem of bullying in Canada. About the problem in our schools, Rob says:

“I told myself that I would do everything in my power to prevent another child, another teenager and, most importantly, another student who felt alone that they finally could feel safe in our schools.”

Bullying Canada apply themselves to that effort every day. The work of advocacy, intervention, and prevention will be measurably successful. We, individually and collectively, can apply our creative compassion to this shared effort.

Bullying Canada Speaking Out

For a glimpse into what Rob Frenette and Bullying Canada are speaking out about from the East Coast, check out the news from area radio stations 106.9 and Max104.9.

One simple way you can be the change for BC!

Did you know that your unused, unwanted vehicle can make a difference for kids? It is a simple, quick, free process. We handle all of the details for donor and charity alike! Once we have your donation form (that will take you just 10 minutes online) you’ll be just a phone call away from your free tow. Then, you’ll receive a tax receipt for the net proceeds from the re-sale or recycle of your vehicle. So, support a cause like BC and be the change!
