Oh, the difference a Chevy donation can make!

Who is on the block for Chevy donations as I write this up? The Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Diabetes Canada, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS). Wait! There are more — so many more. Our Place Society, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, and Covenant House Toronto have cars waiting for disbursal, too!

And these are just seven of our current Chevy donors and only a handful of the charities that they will help. This is the beautiful giving impact of Canadian donors! And it is the heartwork of Donate a Car Canada.

One of the everyday joys of working at Donate a Car Canada is the scope of the charities we serve. There is a charity for every cause you can imagine! ‘Love donkeys? There’s a charity for that. Are you all about hand bells? We ring it in for that cause, too. Community, cancer, kids, and critters: your car donation can go to any charity you love!

How much can your Chevy earn for your cause?

Every donated car (Chevrolet, or other) is assessed, as-is, case-by-case. We and our charities have been at this for over two decades. We roll with current markets: when scrap metal is valued strongly, it’s a big win for charity!

Have you noticed the strength of the re-sale market for cars right now? It is a Goodness for your charity. When we recycle a car, truck, van, or SUV the donation outcome varies. This is most strongly affected by your location. In many provinces we are currently seeing donation outcomes for around $300.00 – $500.00 on scrap cars!

However, not all donated vehicles are ready for recycling. Whenever we can, we assign your donated car to re-sale. This happens through auction and re-sale agents across the country. They put donated vehicles up for sale as-is, to the highest bidder. ‘Highest bid takes the car. Your charity? They receive the net proceeds.

How easy is this 3 step process?

Donating your vehicle is really just so easy! Fill in our online form (you’re one click away). Wait for a call from your supporting tow agent (the tow is always free!). Watch for your tax receipt.

We take care of every detail along the way. You will receive emails outlining important information so that you have a robust paper trail for your donation, should you wish it.

You can choose any charity in Canada! Your charity of choice will never be charged any fees. There is no extra work for them. Their role in all of this? To keep doing the caring, building, researching, nurturing work that is their mission. And then to accept the monetary-gift outcome of your donated car, of course. We are here to serve them by serving you!

Happy Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Donor

“Good riddance to bad rubbish” was this donor’s heartfelt post. His donation on behalf of the CPFF was processed earlier this month. A recycle-ready vehicle, the donor received his free tow in quicktime by Quick’s Towing. This faithful agent has been serving Donate a Car Canada in Ontario for years. So many donors and their charities of choice served by one company!

What happens to my junk car?

Not all of us feel quite so strongly about our recycle-ready vehicles as our Equinox donor! We may not be so ready to call Old Faithful, “junk.” Whatever the readiness, our process in caring for your donation will hold steady.

You will always receive a free tow from one of our trusted supporting agents. These stalwarts will either recycle or re-sell your vehicle. This is dependent on many factors specific to your location, and the condition of the auto. Donation dollar outcomes vary from one province to the next. This is as should be: metal prices fluctuate constantly. Your donation outcome will reflect that variance.

And your charity? Monies in hand within weeks of us receiving the pay out from our agent. Your tax receipt is then issued to you in the subsequent weeks.

But what if it’s not junk?

“Take care of my junk car!” may not be your cry. Perhaps your donation-ready vehicle is in sale-able condition. We’re the company for you! Simply submit the car or truck particulars and we’ll promptly assess its condition. If we, based on what we know about the industry and our database of sale outcomes, determine that it can be re-sold, or auctioned off, we’ll do so! This can result in a much stronger donation outcome on driveable, sturdy, good lookin’ units! ‘Good for your charity, and great for your tax claims!

With several hundred receiving charities here (reaching toward illness, relief, education, research, religion, global aide, and beyond) we know this: Animal lovers of Canada, you are one generous bunch! You Facebook, you rally, you reach out in crisis. We are always amazed at how much love is shared in this community through donations to animal rescue across the country. Sometimes that care for our furry – and not so furry – animal friends means you reach into your pockets and gift your favorite charity.

Animal rescue everyday heroes

2014 saw some significant crisis for our receiving animal rescue charities: they reached toward profound need in providing services in small ways, as well as through large-scale efforts. Some found themselves struck by personal tragedy  through fire or flood. But each SPCA, each animal rescue team, and countless individuals diligently gave voice and care to our pets and our wildlife.

We don’t have a moment’s doubt: your SPCA, shelter and area conservation group — working hard to care for both our domestic and wild animals beloved by Canadians – will continue to be on the receiving end of donor generosity in 2015. We can’t wait to be part of that for each deserving charity!

Voltaire challenges us to tend our own garden. For some of us, helping the world means helping at home. If that is you, your local animal shelter continues to serve.
