Alberta mechanic shop sets the giving bar crazy-high!

We were first introduced to Erol’s Automotive way back in 2013 (or thereabouts). This well respected and steadily growing mechanic shop in Cochrane, Alberta initiated a relationship with a 1997 Ford Explorer. Their generous efforts have continued ever since!

Over the years this little shop has come across their share of done-in vehicles. Rather than weaseling money out of their customers on hopeless repairs, they consistently advise customers when a vehicle is ready to come off the road. Then they let them know that the option to donate is available! The result? Thousands of donations dollars for dozens of different charities!

That first donation (so long ago, now!) went to the Calgary Children’s Foundation. A Ford Taurus for a children’s hospice and a minivan for the Canadian Cancer Society quickly followed. Jettas, Civics, Sunfires, and Durangos have each raised hundreds of dollars for humane societies, a wolfdog sanctuary, and The War Amps!

Their private customers and company fleet clients have jumped on board. So much good has been done by this one shop in just a few short years!

Ten more…and counting

Richard Automotive is a small town mechanic shop that’s following Erol’s example. So small they don’t even have a website, they can’t be stopped from choosing an area seniors’ support centre and a big city mission as their charities of choice! They’re at ten vehicle donations so far — and they only discovered this giving option in 2025. Their generous practices don’t show any signs of slowin’ down in the years ahead.

Your local mechanic may not be aware that we can get unwanted vehicles removed from their yards. As with Erol’s and Richard’s, we can turn unfixables into giftables! Spread the word!

Clearing the clutter one car at a time

Whether you have a recycle-ready vehicle sitting in the driveway (or the back fourty), or you’ve discovered it’s beyond repair and left it sitting at the mechanic shop, we’re your crew!

Every vehicle counts! When you donate your van, truck, SUV, car, or motorcycle we will assess it for both re-sale and recycle value. Either way, your tow will be free. Your tax receipt will reflect the net proceeds from either process.

Your free tow typically occurs within 3-5 business days of us receiving your donation details. The tow agent will call you to schedule pick up timing that serves you best. They will give you direction regarding your keys and vehicle registration (we need that document to ensure a speedy and legal process). In many provinces you do not need to be present at tow time and can just go about your business while the agent takes care of everything for you. The exception to this is BC, where you need to be present to tend to the ICBC Transfer Form.

Scooter donations on the rise this Spring

DACC prides itself on choice of charity. Your donated scooter, van, car, truck, SUV, or motorcycle is a valuable monetary gift to ALL Canadian charities.

Spring is just the time to donate a scooter! This is one way of raising hundreds of donation dollars for multiple charities.

How much money will my charity get when I donate a scooter?

When our donors asked themselves, “Should I donate a scooter?” they are not necessarily savvy to our process. Vehicles in a variety of conditions wind their way into our hearts. Donors visit with no way of knowing just how honoring of their beloved works this process can be!

If a scooter is recycle ready, our donation returns are on the low end. Recycle vehicle value is determined by the scrap metal and parts that can be taken from the vehicle. A scooter does not have much left to give at the end of its driveable life simply because it is light weight.

In these circumstances, the donations can be around $100.00, in the donor’s name, to their charity of choice. We recently processed one such unit on behalf of Ronald McDonald House Montreal!

Re-selling for charity

If you opt to donate a scooter and the ‘bike is auctioned, our free tow/pick-up service applies. This is a Donate a Car Canada sure-thing.

Once the scooter is on site with our re-sale (sometimes an auction) agent, it will be entered into the promotion process. Re-sellers may post the vehicle on their website, or talk it around to always-interested buyers. With more re-sellers/auctions moving on-line, that process is robust. You might now search, view, and bid on your hoped-for ride from the comfort of your couch.

Should I donate my scooter?

Scooter donation is a seasonal affair here at DACC: Spring and Summer are our donation windows for ‘bikes. This is simply because that’s when the buyer base is strongest, and we can ensure the strongest possible donation outcome for your charity. It’s best if the scooter is running and in good condition. This allows us to re-sell the vehicle. Again, this results in a higher return for the cause you love. Some agents (in some parts of Canada) will accept recycle-ready scooters. It’s always worth asking about!
