Meet the D’Mello Family

A video is worth a thousand words (so three must be worth 3,000?)! Meet the family who has a mission to express their deep gratitude for RMH South Central Ontario:

Welcoming three wee ones into the world came with unexpected challenges for one of the baby girls. The D’Mello family found themselves unexpectedly in need of supports extending far outside of their little crew of six.

Where the journey with RMH South Central Ontario began for D’Mello crew

“As parents of spontaneous triplets (Josie, Chloe & Zoe) and our now 4 year old (Capri), our family faced
unimaginable challenges when one of our daughters, Josie, was diagnosed
with severe Cerebral Palsy.“

“During countless hospital admissions and
extended stays totaling 200+ days, Ronald McDonald House provided us with
far more than just a place to sleep, it gave us comfort, hope, support, and
a sense of normalcy during an incredibly difficult chapter of our lives.

The staff, volunteers, and supporters made us feel welcomed and cared for
every single day. They truly created a home away from home for our family
when we needed it most.”

Dad goes on to say, “The Ronald McDonald House means so much to our family. During one of the
most difficult times in our lives, the House and its incredible staff, volunteers, and supporters made it feel like a true home away from home. We were truly blessed to have had the opportunity to stay there while our
daughter received care.”

Camry donors fill charity piggy banks one car at a time

‘Considering vehicle donation? These Camry donation outcomes might inspire you to punch the gas on your decision!

In the first few months of this year we’ve excitedly disbursed $618.55 to the Farley Foundation. A loving daughter facilitated the process on behalf of her father. $985.80 went to Autism Ontario, and $6,324.00 to Parkinson Canada! Re-sale ready vehicles earn big for every donor’s charity of choice.

Has your Toyota given you all it has to give? Whenever we are unable to re-sale a donated vehicle, it is recycled. Every year, hundreds of vehicles are scrapped for charity. Here are just a few organizations that have benefitted from scrapping a Camry in the past couple of months: The Scott Mission, Abbey Cat Adoptions, The Heart & Stroke Foundation, and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation! Each of these charities has received several hundred dollars in donations, and the Toyota donors have all received a tax receipt.

Camry donors keep the engine running

As I finish up this week’s post, we’re wrapping up a $600.00 Camry gift for The Ottawa Mission. SPCA Saskatoon will benefit from a rusty and salvage-ready Camry with a recycle donation outcome. Diabetes Canada and YFC London both have similar gift amounts coming to them at month end, as will a hospital foundation in BC.

This way of giving is simple and quick. Furthermore, it’s free! Free for you; free for your charity of choice.

The first step in donating is to fill in an online donation form. This will take just a few minutes. It will be helpful to have your VIN handy when you sit down to do it. ‘Not one for computers? No problem! Give us a call at 1-877-250-4904! We’re happy to take your information over the phone.

Ronald McDonald House charities keeps families together

Imagine learning that your child is ill and you will need to travel to a different city to receive the medical care they need. In the midst of your worst nightmare as a parent, you must now also leave your home, your job and your support system. This is the reality for more than 70 per cent of Canadian families with seriously ill or injured children.

Your car, truck, van, and SUV donations make care for these families possible! Since first partnering together in 2015, Donate a Car Canada has facilitated the donation of hundreds of vehicles for Ronald McDonald House services in almost every province.

Donors from High Prairie, Crossfield, Sundre, Canmore, and beyond have gifted recycle-ready, and auctionable cars. One Rocky Mountain House donor donated 6 vehicles at one time!

That’s in Alberta alone! Ontario blows the wheels off with more yearly vehicle donors than any other province!

Many donated vehicles are recycle-ready. These cars, trucks, motorcycles and holiday vehicles are priced based on an ever-fluctuating metal market. From time-to-time, a donor will give a donation that has re-sale potential. These vehicles are sold as-is to the highest bidder.

For example, one Yaris donated from Bragg Creek drew a donation of $989.30 to RMH!

Company vans. Trusty old Hondas. The net proceeds from the sale of each vehicle is sent to the charity at the end of the month. Moreover, no fees are ever charged to the charity. You will receive a tax receipt that reflects the amount that your chapter Ronald McDonald House receives from your vehicle donation.

In an average year, 16 Ronald McDonald Houses and 18 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms serve more than 26,000 families

Give to your regional Ronald McDonald House in other ways (not everyone has a donation-ready car sitting in the drive way!). Ask them about their wish lists.  They may be looking for things like baking supplies, toiletries, recreation and craft materials. Furthermore, they appreciate pick-me-up gifts for their families.

Donated items help keep costs low. This ensures they can continue providing a home away from home for hundreds of families each year.
