Dream Car, NatGeo style

When we think “dream car” our thoughts are likely to turn to shiny and new. We may wish for a futuristic model with lots of bells and whistles. National Geographic and their restoration crew have different ideas.

“It’s really important to us, as historians, to keep it as it was.” Many many hours later, with a lot of TLC attending to “unorthodox body work,” the project is…well, see for yourself. (Video not loading well? Check it out here instead?)!

Pretty dreamy, right? Here at Donate a Car we do see the odd classic or collector car roll through the program. Our re-sale and auction agents are always ready to give advice on how to get the best return. We don’t have restoration teams, but we do have agents committed to our charities. They will guide us in deciding if the car can be sold for bids at auction.

If you have a car of this kind you’re thinking of donating, give us a call! We’re here to serve!

You’re not alone! Whether it’s a Corvette or a camper, a vintage motorbike or your faithful old Honda, sometimes all she needs is a little TLC and she would be a great set of wheels for the right buyer.

“…the car will run for anyone like a charm”

The Willson family held on to their beautiful ‘89 Corvette until they knew they just couldn’t justify the cost of parking and upkeep any longer. Can you relate? Parts, repairs, and just maintaining the shine are all matched by our sentimental attachment to the four-wheeled story tellers in our driveways.

Corvette Brings it All Together

When it’s time to let them go, it’s important to find the right buyer, the right price, and the right cause.

“‘Would love this car to go to someone who would care for this car but I do not want to go through auto trader or sell myself.”

For the Willson family it all came together as we were able to arrange transport and sale for their treasured car. After a tough parting they saw the happy outcome of a strong donation for their chosen cause, the BC SPCA.

The SPCA has done well through our program over the years, drawing in over $40,000.00 in vehicle donation gifts. The Willson’s Corvette contributed over $4000.00 more to that generous number! Buyer, price, and charity of choice — it’s a beautiful thing when it all comes together!

First responders and volunteers alike have committed their hearts and souls to getting people back in their homes. They are ensuring there is as much support available as possible. Canmore has made huge strides towards cleanup efforts and are on the road to figuring things out. High River, however, still sits under water in many parts (watch CTVs latest report), and its 13,000 residents are still homeless, without their local jobs, hospital and community.

The truth of it is that it will take months and years for so many in Calgary and surrounding areas to recover. Emotionally, physically and financially.

Walking through house after house, speaking with home owners and witnessing the aftermath myself, the depth of emotion gripped me in a way that is difficult to describe. For those of us who escaped the damage? There is almost a feeling of guilt mixed with the sense that we are a part of this devastation too. We feel the pain, loss and grief for our neighbours and our community. This is a life altering event that has changed us all.

Businesses may never reopen, zoo employees (along with thousands of others) are out of work, livelihoods are at stake. These are long term scenarios for which there are no easy answers. This is our reality.

And this is one way we can help: Canadian Red Cross

Our fellow Canadians have reached out through donations, volunteer help, thoughts and wishes. None of it goes unnoticed. We are grateful to all the selfless souls who have been part of the recovery.

To that end, we have joined forces with the Red Cross to help them in their relief efforts. When you donate your vehicle, choose the Alberta Red Cross in the charity selections. The funds will go directly to assisting flood victims through the Red Cross. Your charitable donation will also net you a tax receipt.

Why the Red Cross? They are skilled experts at assessing where the greatest needs are, and dispatching resources accordingly. They moved in and moved mountains to help with those evacuated and displaced from their homes. They’ve worked tirelessly (as have so many).Their reputation to serve makes them an obvious choice.

This initiative is Canada wide. From sea to sea, contribute towards the largest disaster Alberta has ever experienced. This is definitely a great opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives and futures.

If you have a vehicle sitting unproductive, donate it! Whether it’s an old jalopy or simply a vehicle no longer in use, please consider offering it as a token of support. In some cases, ATVs, RVs and motorcycles are acceptable as well. You can click here to begin the process (you’ll need the 17 digit VIN number from your vehicle).

Please know we are grateful for your generosity at a time when our community is reeling and most needs you.
