Kia donors are kickin’ it for charity! From Victoria: Thank you for donating your ’01 Sedona for the Heart & Stroke Foundation, J.C.B! To Halifax: Your Rio means valuable dollars for Humane Canada, M.L! Any charity. Every province. Change is happening one vehicle donor at a time.

Charlottetown Kia Sorento LX for women & kids

When R.P’s Sorento was over 200,000 kms in and ready to come off the road, he knew he wanted to extend its legacy. A quick call in to explain the condition of the Kia and where it had stranded him and R.P was on his way to a free tow.

He knew he wanted to support women and children recovering from intimate partner violence.

Alice House, a Maritime charity that provides safe second-stage housing and supportive counselling for women and children in Nova Scotia, was the perfect fit.

Free tow for R.P., and cash in hand for the charity!

’06 Spectra in Ontario goes to the dogs

M.R.S. wrote, “…it won’t start because it hasn’t been used in almost a year…”. Donating her Kia for the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind was a win for the driveway, and for the charity!

‘Still waiting on Kia Amanti outcome

When a Kia still has miles left to give, re-selling is the way to go! This is accomplished one of two ways: auctioning, or private re-sale from an agent lot.

When Mr. S found himself facing ailing health and the loss of his driver’s license, he wanted to make something good of it. He and his wife donated their Amanti on behalf of the YMCA in Cobourg!

The car will be up for bids this month. The highest bidder will get the Kia; the YMCA will receive the net proceeds from the sale. And Mr. S? He has extended both the life of the car and the legacy of his own family through giving!

Single mum gifts Sedona

The hustle and worry of raising three kids on her own…while going to school…didn’t stop F.O.N. from donating. “I don’t want to sell! I want to donate!” Despite being the victim of vandalism with student loans to pay, she gave! The Heart & Stroke Foundation benefited with a hearty (You see what we did there?) gift of $650.00.

Kia donors reflect the diversity and goodness of Canadians coast to coast. We count it 100% privilege to serve their charities alongside them!

The global spotlight is on women’s issues. How do Canadian women fare?

Canadian women by the numbers

As a woman of a certain age, I find myself alternately perplexed, appalled, and inspired by today’s news. At this moment, there are women risking their lives to have the freedom to choose what to do with their religious head coverings. Their lives. They are risking their lives for rights that I don’t even need to think about defending for myself.

Closer to our borders, we have seen reproductive health laws torn down and clinic doors closed. There are young women pleading for the care of our planet. There are women, young and old, fleeing from their war-threatened homes.

Canadian women and girls aren’t getting a pass on cruelty, violence, or coercive control. It can look a little different here. In fact, it can be a invisible here. It takes the shape of physical, financial, spiritual, reproductive, and sexual danger. These kinds of violence (and more) against women happen behind closed doors and are typically dealt by the hand of an intimate partner or loved one.

Here’s how our federal government is addressing this currently:

Joint Declaration for a Canada free of Gender-based violence

Everyone has the right to live free from violence;

Many people in Canada have violence committed against them and continue to experience violence every day because of their gender, gender identity, gender expression, or how their gender is perceived by others;

This form of violence constitutes gender-based violence, and it is one of the most pervasive, deadly and deeply rooted human rights violations. Gender-based violence is a major barrier to the expression of individual freedom and societal and collective development;

The negative effects of gender-based violence reach far beyond the individuals who have this violence committed against them. Violence can have long-lasting and negative health, social and economic effects that span generations, often leading to cycles of violence and abuse within families, and sometimes whole communities;

While violence affects people of all genders, ages, religions, cultures, ethnicities, geographic locations, and socio-economic backgrounds, some populations are more at risk of experiencing violence because of historical and ongoing oppressions, such as sexism, homophobia, transphobia, colonialism, ageism, classism, racism, ableism;

To this day, women and girls continue to be the primary victims and survivors of gender-based violence;

Indigenous women; Black and racialized women; non-binary, gender diverse and LGBTQ and Two-Spirit people; those living in northern, rural, and remote communities; those with disabilities; non-status and temporary status migrants, immigrants and refugees; children and youth; and seniors experience high rates of gender-based violence. The intersection of any two or more identity factors compounds a person’s risk and vulnerability to violence;

Gender-based violence is a complex and multifaceted issue that requires action by all governments according to their respective responsibilities, as well as cross-sector collaboration…

The ongoing commitment:

“We, the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers responsible for the Status of Women acknowledge the urgency to address the multiple, complex and deeply rooted factors that contribute to gender-based violence. We commit to continue to work together and with other departments, agencies and ministries, partners, stakeholders, experts, survivors, families and people with lived experience to create a Canada free of gender-based violence, where victims, survivors and their families are supported no matter where they live. More than ever, there is a strong need to prevent and address gender-based violence in our country.”

We are the change makers needed

Whatever our political tilt, this is a care we can all get behind! Every moment we live as persons of inclusion, equality, and affirmation counts! Volunteer, create, and have meaningful conversations. Be aware. Stay informed. The way that we think and learn and talk about these things really matters.

There are so many devoted and caring workers and charities rolling up their sleeves to move the needle on creating a Canada free of gender-based violence!

Here are a few that we love:

Alice House

ALIES & the Back Porch

Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic

Bryony House (Halifax Transition House)

Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter

That’s where we come in here at Donate a Car Canada. Your vehicle can be donated to any Canadian charity. We serve your charity by facilitating every last detail of your car donation for them. Your unused or unwanted car, truck, van, or SUV makes a difference! We take your donated vehicle and recycle or re-sell it so that the net proceeds can be sent to your charity of choice.

Nova Scotia car donors are all part of the heart work here at Donate a Car Canada.

Most of the vehicles we process in the Maritimes are recycle-ready. And there are times when we are able to re-sell a vehicle for a higher donation return. Whatever the process, donors and charities alike are well served.

Quadruple car donor!

It is our privilege to work alongside donors who have more than one vehicle to donate. Sometimes Canadians submit more than one vehicle at the same time. Additionally, donors may come back to us year after year. And sometimes, we see the same giver roll through the program with several years in between.

One of our Nova Scotia car donors lands in more than one of those categories!

‘Back in 2014, our guy came to the program with three vehicles at once! Not only did he submit 3 different cars, he gifted 3 unique charities:
Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia ,
Alice House , and the
Arthritis Research Foundation .

Two of his vehicles (a tired ol’ Pontiac Grand Am, and a worn out Toyota Sienna) were ready for recycling. While his ’08 Uplander looked scrap-ready on paper, our agent was able to turn it over for higher-than-going-rate!

Which brings us to July 2020 Nova Scotia car donors…

Just this past month, this same Maritimer gifted Alice House another vehicle! This time his trusty Mini Cooper brought in a donation of a $200.00 for the charity.

Nova Scotia car donors have options when it comes to giving away their vehicles. What a joy it is to serve generous Canadians such as this, time after time!

If you have a vehicle to donate (or two…or more!), we’re here to help:

Quick, simple, free!

Give to the charity you love in 3 easy steps:

Click that red button up there. In less than 10 minutes you’ll have your information out to us. Or, call in, Monday – Friday, 1-877-250-4904. A real, live, funny human will be happy to assist!

Then, just wait for your free tow call.

Finally, watch your inbox for your charitable tax receipt!

Find us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, too. There you will be able to keep up-to-date on posts. We love to showcase amazing donors and charities in every province in Canada!
