Supporting Canadian wildlife through Subaru donations

Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary is signed up! A generous Subaru Outback donor connected to donate their vehicle and named the refuge as their charity of choice. How exactly does this work?

Are you considering vehicle donation? Did you know that you can donate your van, truck, car, SUV, or motorcycle for ANY Canadian charity?

Your first stop is our online donation form. This will take you less than 10 minutes to complete. ‘Trouble with the form? Give us a call at 1-877-250-4904. We have lovely, funny, efficient humans happy to take your call.

Then, sit back and wait for our agent to give you a buzz to set up your free tow (Yup! Free!). After that? Just watch your in box for your tax receipt.

When you filling in your form you’ll find our list of charities. It is a long, long list! One recent donor jokingly said, “This process was all so easy…except scrolling all the way down to the “W’s” to find my chosen charity!”

How did charities get on that list?

Donor’s like our recent Subaru saint requested that the charity they love be added to the list. If your beloved local, regional, or national work is not already on our list you’ll be able to request that we get ‘er done. And we will!

What is the donation value of a Subaru?

The first “value” of every vehicle donation is the experience itself. You can expect exceptional donor support and the thrill of knowing you’ve made a difference for the cause you care about.

The Outback donor we mention above wrote in to say, “‘Application online was very fast and easy with a well designed online application. Response after application was prompt and informative. Tow service was prompt, friendly and efficient. They went above and beyond as I accidently locked all of the keys in the car as I prepared it for pickup. The driver came to the location of the car and patiently gained access then drove the car back to his shop with dealer plates. I found him very friendly, skilled and patient. A totally positive experience!“

But what about actual dollars and cents!?

An excellent experience is one thing. Making a cash-in-hand difference for the charity is next level! In the instance above, the Subaru was recycle ready and raised a donation of several hundred dollars for the WWS.

What if my car is in great condition and not ready for the scrap yard?

Whenever possible, our agents work diligently and capably to re-sell donated vehicles. This can be done through auction where vehicles are sold as-is to the highest bidder. Or, an agent might shop the Subaru (or any other amazing make) around to their substantial base of interested vehicle buyers.

Where a recycle-ready vehicle can bring in hundreds of dollars, a re-sale ready vehicle can bring in several thousand. Here is an example or two:

$1,232.25 was raised for the HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre! Thanks for donating your XVC, K.M.!

A ’92 SVX sold for $1,000.00. The donor’s chosen charity? BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.

$1,185.87 went to the Parkinson Association of Alberta thanks to J.R.’s Impreza donation!

Betsy revs it up for charity

On paper it appeared that the Mercedes was better off recycled than going through our re-sale process. She was simply too old, and the mileage too high for re-sale — or so thought! Betsy was about to prove us wrong.

What do we do if a car isn’t quite scrap ready, but cannot be auctioned off? We connect with our capable recycle/re-sale agents! These companies (local to the donation area) are one of the reasons we can draw the high donations we do. Our agents go the extra mile, assessing each car on its own merits. If they deem it recycle-ready, they’ll scrap the car. However, if they see re-sale value in the car or truck they’ll put it up for bids. Their contacts in the industry are vast. Moreover, they seek out the buyer that will offer the most money for the car.

They went to work on our donor’s behalf. Betsy went up for bids, and it paid off!

Epilepsy Canada benefits

Sold! Thanks to a happy buyer, a donation of over $700.00 was made. Donor’s choose their charities in our program. For our Mercedes donor, Epilepsy Canada was the charity of choice!

Here’s what EC has to say about Epilepsy itself,

“Epilepsy is a chronic disorder that is defined by unprovoked seizures. A person is diagnosed with epilepsy if they have two unprovoked seizures. However, these were not caused by some known and reversible medical condition. For example, alcohol withdrawal or extremely low blood sugar can bring on a seizure. Seizures in epilepsy may be related to a brain injury or a family tendency. Notably, the cause is usually unknown.

Approximately 360,000 Canadians live with epilepsy. It affects 1-in-100 people worldwide. Many people with epilepsy have more than one type of seizure. Additionally, they may have other symptoms of neurological problems as well.”

The mission

Epilepsy Canada is dedicated to positively affecting the lives of those living with epilepsy. It undertakes education and awareness activities. These build understanding, acceptance and hope for those effected by epileptic seizures or SUDEP. SUDEP is Sudden Unexplained Death from Epilepsy.  Furthermore, EC’s active financial support of research aims to help the Canadian neurology community find a cure.

The organization depends on donor and volunteer support for the continued development and delivery of its research grant programs.
