Is Kids Cancer Care a cause you love? We process vehicle donations for children’s cancer charities each month. Why not learn more about how you can make a difference?

Kids Cancer Care Foundation receives 5 vehicle donation — from one donor!

When a donor found herself settling an Alberta estate this summer, she needed a simple solution for managing multiple vehicles left on her loved one’s property. One by one, we excitedly watched as each unique donation rolled in on behalf of her charity of choice, Kids Cancer Care.

When the agent successfully completed her first free tow, she wrote in to note, “Very good service.” The second wave of vehicles were helped along by a, “Very nice young man,” too!

All-in-all, KCC will receive the net proceeds from her generously donated estate 1992 Buick Regal, 1984 Chevrolet Geo Citation, 1981 Oldsmobile Tornado (she had a “tear in her eye” as she watched this one roll away), 1981 Ford F-250, and 1980 Ford Econoline. These add up to thousands of donation dollars for her charity of choice!

Why Kids Cancer Care Foundation?

The Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta (KCC) is a charitable organization that helps build bridges of hope and pillars of support for families fighting childhood cancer. The Foundation helps Alberta children and families by providing funding and programs in four key areas:

Camp & Community

Pediatric Oncology Research

Clinical Support

KCC Derek Wandzura Memorial Scholarship

KCC | A story about Rafi

This is Rafi.

When he was three, he was diagnosed with leukemia. After years of intense chemotherapy and invasive medical procedures, Rafi had finally conquered the disease. But the battle was not over. Rafi was left with a permanent memory deficit that effects his ability to learn.

Where is Rafi now?

Now a strapping young lad of 18, Rafi has dreams of becoming an engineer. He was in his final year of high school last spring when the schools shut down due to COVID-19. The timing couldn’t have been worse. Rafi could see his dream slipping away.

How Canadians responded

Thankfully, people like you stepped up to help. Rafi was able to complete his grade-12 year with the help of a tutor through our online tutoring program. With hard work, regular tutoring and constant studying during the spring and summer months, Rafi was accepted into the Electronics Engineering Technology program at SAIT. And, with the help of a Derek Wandzura Memorial Scholarship, also made possible by generous donors like you, Rafi just started his first semester. He and his mother couldn’t be happier: “Now he will have so much confidence going to classes and exams. Your support is a big relief for Rafi and myself.”

More kids like Rafi

There are so many children in Alberta like Rafi today. They are the little ones who can’t go to school because it’s just too risky for a child on cancer treatment. They are the adolescents who struggle academically because of cancer-related learning issues. You can help. Please donate today to give children with cancer access to Kids Cancer Care’s entire suite of virtual and COVID-adapted programs to help them reach their potential!

Where Donate a Car comes in

Like the Alberta estate vehicle donor at the top of this article, you can help Kids Cancer Care! By donating a vehicle through our program, your monetary gift will be forward directly to KCC. We take donated vehicles and process them via recycle and re-sale. This results in real dollars for charities like KCC.

Simple, quick, and always free (for you and the charity alike), you are minutes away from making a difference!

First, click on the big red button below and fill in your online donation form. This will take less than 10 minutes. ‘Prefer to talk to a real, capable, funny human? Just call in to 1-877-250-4904 and we can do the form on your behalf.

Then, just wait for your towing agent to call to arrange your free tow. After that? It’s simply a matter of watching your inbox for your tax receipt.

Every vehicle counts, and you can choose any charity in Canada! We can’t wait to serve you and the charity you care about.

World Cancer Day combines experience, voice, and hope for a better future in honouring Cancer patients and the people who love them.

World Cancer Day: a blend of heart, stats, and hope for the future

World Cancer Day strikes a chord. At the time of this writing I have many loved ones and family members facing their personal Cancer diagnoses head on. I’ve lost people to the disease just this year, and many others over my lifetime. Maybe that rings true for you, too?

The Canadian Cancer Society offers some clear-eyed statistics on just how Canada is affected by this kind of illness as a whole. Their pie charts are not for the faint-of-heart.

And there is now more hope for cure, recovery, and remission than ever before.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation notes, “The impact of a donation is far bigger than any statistic. Your donation and your kindness reaches all over…It touches our neighbours, our friends and our loved ones–those who face cancer today or later down the road.

By donating…you help fund support programs for patients close to home, helping ease their cancer journey, and make life better for patients with cancer when a specific cure is not yet an option. You help us provide immediate assistance when it’s needed most, create inviting spaces for patients to heal, and drive innovative research that will lead to life-saving discoveries.

This impact translates into heartwarming stories. Stories about people. People who are helping others. People who are persevering. People who have left behind legacies that inspire. And so on.”

Your impact on World Cancer Day

Anecdotally, we know that this disease (in its many, many forms) is one of the most impactful in our country. We see this reflected in vehicle donations daily. There are so many ways to care for the charities that are caring about this cause!

If money is tight and resources limited, your time and ingenuity will be welcome. Reach out to the charity that has been supporting you and your loved ones in your own health journeys. Because this is such a cheaky disease, there are many health-related charities specific to the many ways in which Cancer presents. So, you can be specific in the charity you support through that 10K run, or that bottle drive!

If you have an unused or unwanted vehicle, look no further for your simple, quick, and always-free process. We manage every detail of your van, motorcycle, truck, SUV, and car donation. Not only that, your charity will never pay a penny for the service! And, the tow is always free, of course.

Childhood Cancer Awareness myths debunked

Some straight up facts

There are about 10,000 children living with cancer in Canada today.

Each year, about 1500 cases are diagnosed

Because of significant advances in therapy, 78% of these children will survive 5 years or more, an increase of almost 46% since the early 1960s.

More than 70 percent of children diagnosed with cancer become long-term survivors and the majority of them are considered cured. However, long-term effects of surviving the treatments for childhood cancer can affect these children’s futures.

In the early 1950s, less than 10 percent of childhood cancer patients could be cured.

Leukemias, tumors of the brain and nervous system, the lymphatic system, kidneys, bones and muscles are the most common childhood cancers.

In Canada, childhood cancer remains responsible for more deaths from one year through adolescence than any other disease; more deaths than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and AIDS combined.

About one in four children who are diagnosed with cancer will die of the disease.

With a mortality rate of close to 25%, Canada loses tens of thousands of years of potential life each year to childhood cancer. In terms of potential life saved, childhood cancer rank second only to breast cancer.

Childhood cancers differ from adult cancers. Adults are most affected by breast, lung, prostate, bowel and bladder cancers. Children are most affected by acute leukemia, tumours of the brain and nervous system, the lymphatic system, kidneys, bones and muscles.

From http://childhoodcancer.ca

Shandra’s Story

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This one hits home for me as I’ve shared in a previous blog. I have a son who is a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed at 10 months, had surgery to remove a kidney at 11 months and started chemotherapy 2 days after his first Christmas. We spent that Christmas within the confines of hospital walls…and tubes…and sleeplessness.

The truth is we got the best possible outcome we could have in our situation. He’s 12 ½ years old, considered cured and has more energy than the rest of the household put together! Not everyone gets to experience that kind of story.

One thing I love about our story, though, is that it proves the importance and necessity of research. Ten years before he was diagnosed with a Wilm’s Tumour, the survival rate was somewhere around 10% for that type of childhood cancer. When he was in treatment the survival rate had advanced to 96%!! As a parent, you can imagine the gratefulness for anyone and everyone involved in the advancement of treatment and care to provide the kind of hope – and outcome – we had.

What your car has to do with it all

Donate A Car Canada is such a powerful tool for our charities to utilize because it fills so many needs in a variety of ways. Below are organizations that participate in our program and who directly impact childhood cancer awareness. One of the benefits of donating your vehicle using our tried and tested system, is that you choose who benefits. Whether it’s the Canadian Cancer Society, offering support for research and advancement, or whether it’s a Foundation the provides support to families, a Wish Foundation or a hospital, the number of people and organizations involved is monumental – and very much needed.

As you research your donation options and consider giving the funds generated from the sale of your vehicle to a worthy cause, please know that no matter how large or small the gift, it truly does make a difference and definitely impacts lives. Just ask me.

Of the organizations listed below, 5 of them have had direct impact on, and involvement with, our family. It’s not small thing.

Alberta Red Cross

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation

Kids Cancer Care Foundation

Kids With Cancer Society

Make A Wish Foundation

Easy as 1-2-3

Do you have a car, truck, van, or SUV to give to the cause of childhood cancer awareness? It’s so easy! Simply click the button below and fill in a donation form. It takes less than 10 minutes! Or, if you would like to speak with a real live human, give us a jingle at 1-877-250-4907 — we are here to help!

Here at Donate a Car Canada we can serve any charity in Canada. What does this mean for you? For Father’s Day? Well, to start with…

Is it time to get your Camry off Dad’s driveway?

Gift dad the ultimate peace of mind by donating that unused/unwanted vehicle you’ve been storing in his back yard. Or his garage. Or his driveway. There’s not cost to you! We’ll do all of the set-up for your free tow. You can choose any charity you (or, better yet, Dad!) wish to receive the net proceeds from the re-sale/recycling of your old vehicle!

Click here for the 10 minute set-up process:

Staying active – together – this Father’s Day

No vehicle to donate, but curious about donating to a charity in Dad’s honor? Many of our receiving charities have unique fund raisers on-the-go. You can ride, hike, sleep, or rapel (Yes, rapel!) your way to raising a donation in your father’s name.

You and Dad can join together in a challenge for

Make-a-Wish Northern Alberta: rapel or trek – Rope for Hope or Trailblaze for Wishes.

With gratitude for dad

Here’s to time spent together, whether in person, or virtually, this Father’s Day. And to the together-goodness of joining hearts and minds in spreading Canadian respect and generosity!

Cancer charities in Canada are bright lights of support and compassion. They come into our lives at the most frightening times. Moreover, they companion and teach when we need it most. Your car and truck donation dollars aid in their helping work each month!

It’s a personal thing

If you’re reading this, you could probably write this. Cancer affects all of us. Have you experienced it firsthand? More certainly, you have had a loved one who has.

My earliest memory of the disease was my Grandpa’s long and painful illness. That was almost 50 years ago. That introduction was preamble to the close-call diagnosis of many loved ones. It was the first of dear ones falling ill.

Research and medical practice have made progress, despite the many faces of this disease, in the past few decades. ‘Research and practice made possible, in large part, by donations like yours!

Canadian Cancer Society

The CCS is one of Donate a Car Canada’s most-chosen Cancer charities. It’s easy to see why! It is their vision to foster a world where no one fears cancer. With the support of volunteers and donors, they improve and save lives. They do this by taking a comprehensive approach to their work against more than 100 types of cancer. CCS funds research and provides services to those living with cancer. They are advocates on important cancer-related issues.

Alberta Cancer Foundation

Second on our most-gifted list of receiving Cancer charities is the ACF. Here’s what they value, and how they meet their marks:

Compassion – by meeting the needs of patients, families, donors, staff and volunteers in a caring and compassionate manner.

Collaboration – by working and celebrating as a team, and nurturing partnerships that add value for Albertans.

Boldness – by innovatively discovering and taking balanced risks to continuously improve.

Responsiveness – by grounding the work in purpose, propelling them to be nimble and responsive to opportunities.

Integrity – by being truthful and accountable to each other and to their stakeholders.

Energy – by seizing their purpose with energy and passion, and by bringing a generosity of spirit to everything they do.

Your region, your charity

We have so many unique Cancer charities across Canada! You can choose the charity near you to receive your vehicle donation. To see your options, visit our charities page. You can narrow this by searching, “Cancer,” and you’ll pull up our complete list of related organizations.

Listed there are Cancer care charities for children and their families. Womens’ and mens’ Cancer charities, too. Moreover, camp supports, and services for pets needing treatment are free for the choosing.
