Cross-border giving can be a little unwieldy, but there are some Canadian charities that are at-the-ready to aid with wildfire relief in California.

Disaster Aid Canada notes,

“The wildfires currently devastating Los Angeles and surrounding areas have caused an immeasurable loss of life and property. With the fires still barely contained and continuing to spread with wind, communities are facing overwhelming destruction and heartbreak.

Disaster Aid Canada is in touch with our Rotary and Disaster Aid International partners and will support the efforts they’re making in the area to provide aid to those affected during this critical time. The funds received will go to support Rotary District 5280 and their charitable foundation specific to resources and aid following these fires.

Parachutes for Pets also states,

“Parachutes for Pets, a trusted name in pet relief and wildfire response, has been called to assist pets impacted by the devastating California wildfires. Pasadena Humane and the Lange Foundation have reached out to Parachutes for Pets for their expertise and proven success in handling relief efforts during the Alberta wildfires.

The California wildfires have caused widespread devastation, displacing hundreds of thousands of residents and their pets. Parachutes for Pets will work closely with local organizations, shelters and veterinary clinics to provide support.”

A simple-quick-free way to turn your vehicle into aid for wildfire relief in California

One way to get funds into the hands of helping organizations is to donate your vehicle. Wrecked, or running, we will either re-sell, or recycle, your van, car, truck, SUV, or motorcycle. The net proceeds will be sent to your Canadian charity of choice.

This autumn, a very generous donor rolled into the program with his beautiful, auctionable Porsche! On paper, this looked like a pretty typical donation process. It turned out to be a bit more challenging than expected. A combination of issues including parking location and registration details made this a tricky one for our supporting auction agent.

The auction house worked diligently over many weeks. They secured the vehicle. Then, they did the capable and detailed work of ensuring all documentation and process were in place for the Porsche to be re-sold.

And sell it they did! Weeks of hard work and careful promotion resulted in a $33, 340.90 for the donor’s humanitarian relief charity of choice!

Your donation includes a free tow, too! Once we have your donation form (this will take you less than 10 minutes to complete), it’s all about making this as easy as possible for you. You’ll receive a call from your supporting tow agent. They will arrange pick-up timing that suits you well. Once they have your car, van, SUV, or motorcycle hauled for re-sale or recycling, it’s just a matter of time until your vehicle morphs into donation dollars!

This at-home approachability is just one aspect of the CRC’s long reach. Every day, in the news, sometimes on our own streets, we see unique and crisis-driven need that affected citizens are not necessarily equipped to handle alone. Relief and aid organizations like the Canadian Red Cross provide everything from international disaster relief following natural disasters to at-hand support right within our safe Canadian borders.

Those engaged in International Operations with the CRC may find themselves offering physical relief through food and fresh water, or emotional and psychological support after a personal devastation. Their “Finding Family-Restoring Family” efforts reunite families torn apart by emergency circumstance. Their human rights advocacy touches lives impacted by violence and bullying.
