Thriving with special needs

As World Down Syndrome Day approaches, we would love to echo the invitation expressed by the Canadian Down Syndrome Society:

“This March 21st, we are asking people around the world to join our community in creating a single, global voice and call for an end to stereotypes. People with Down syndrome encounter harmful assumptions every day that limit their potential. It’s time to start recognizing the abilities and contributions of people with Down syndrome. #AssumeThatICan”

‘Rich and beautiful invitations to simply welcome all. Each of us our abled a little differently. Some of our differences show up loud and proud. Some of our needs are subtle and hard to put a finger on. We can meet each other as simply human first. And perhaps we can meet our differences with curiosity, wonder, and the same understanding with which we might hope to be met!

The charities that care for families tending special needs

Did you know Canada is home to (no exaggeration!) thousands of registered charities? Take a boo over at Canada Helps and use their “Search” option. Type in, “special needs,” and have your mind a wee bit blown! Are you or a loved one living with special needs? There is, absolutely, a Canadian charity ready to serve you. Not only that, there is a charity that you can give back to.
