Change Starts With You

Change

Change – It all starts with you. What does that catch phrase even mean?

It means when someone laughs at another’s expense and it’s hurtful, you don’t stay silent.

It means when you see a poor soul living on the street you don’t jump to judgement, but you ask questions to find out their story. And maybe even help them.

It means when a teenager is a ‘cutter’, you don’t shirk the responsibility that knowledge places on you, and you offer support and direction to professionals.

It means when a mom runs for shelter with her babies because of an abusive partner, you don’t turn a blind eye.

It means when someone is suicidal, you take it seriously and take the necessary steps to protect that person.

It means when an older person needs assistance, you’re the one stepping up, having normal conversations with those lost in the vortex of aging and becoming invisible to the rest of the world.

It also means you nurture healthy relationships. You make sure you have that 10 second kiss with your partner to melt away the day (try it!), or hug your kids and tell them what you’re proud of them for.

It means thanking the cashier for smiling during his/her busy day. Or maybe asking them what you can do to put a smile on their face.

It means thinking about others, putting yourself in their shoes and then finding a way to love and support them through their challenges.

It also means looking after yourself so that you can make a difference, so that you don’t weary in the well doing.

But you already know what it means. You’re either one of our donors or you are considering how you can support one of your favorite charities. We love you for that. There are hundreds of charities on our listing who can benefit from your thoughtfulness and generosity.

Like Mahatma Ghandi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” It’s not cliche. It’s truth.
